El Rey Mexican Restaurant — Restaurant in Topeka

I understand the frustration of a poor review at a new, local restaurant. I apologize for causing stress and I’ve changed the review to 5 stars given that the review is over the food not the situation and the owner is right. They don’t deserve to suffer if they aren’t the ones that specifically did it. Like I said I don’t know who the exact person was. This situation is very real and is being investigated though, to clarify.

I called to check on the card- looks like it was a few days after I had been there. Confirmed it was there and was going to pick it up- and then a Best Buy charge was made with the card in a different state immediately prior to picking it up. I haven’t left my card anywhere nor used it since it was at the restaurant. My apologies if the case is incorrect- US Bank is currently looking into the incident now.

I absolutely loved the food- with that in mind…

I accidentally left my card here and came back and got it from my server the next day. Someone (not accusing her specifically) stole the card information and spent $200 on my debit card. I currently have to fight this with a fraud investigation with my bank and now can’t afford groceries this week.

El Rey hits the spot if you're looking for authentic Mexican food in a welcoming setting. I had the Chicken Fajita Taco Bowl, which was pretty good—the shell was crispy and held everything together nicely. The chicken was decent.

The real highlight was the free chips and salsa. Fresh, crunchy chips paired with a tangy salsa made for a great start. I added a bit of their green spicy salsa into the salsa for the chips, and it gave it a perfect kick—highly recommend if you like a little heat.

The atmosphere was great—relaxed, friendly, and felt genuinely Mexican. The staff were super attentive and quick to bring out more chips without us even asking.

Could not recommend this place enough! It can be difficult finding the right Mexican spot to fill your craving, but this spot went above and beyond!
