Essentially, there are. two types of Chinese restaurants, in the USA. The well-known commercial cookie-cutter style and "Family Style" or "HomeStyle"... Restaurants that serve their food "Family Style" virtually don't exist. I was completely clueless to this until I just happened to order from a place in Southington, CT for the first time ever first at age 38 (and I'm no stranger to Chinese food). I believed this to be a rather special find at, this stage of my life. I'm, currently, 40 and I recently moved to Torrington. I, first, tried "Chinatown" bc it's named after Chinatown in NYC and (at this moment) it is also the highest Google-rated local Chinese restaurant in this area. Reviewers seemed overly satisfied with the quality, the presentation and the price. The provided photos looked appetizing however the photos didn't make me expect anything other than a solid upper quality standard Chinese joint - which is the best One would typically hope for. Pics don't really do it justice. It's something you need to experience, for yourself. Still, I did provide a photo of a Wonton uncut and cut which may help. (BTW, the prices are a dollar or 2 more for everything at the first place I discovered in Southington and I didn't know why until I got home and ate it. Chinatown, here in Torrington, doesn't charge more for the proper quality) I didn't know what I was truly in for until my first bite due to competitive pricing and understanding this type of Commercial restaurant is extremely uncommon. Immediately, I knew this was a "Family-Style" restaurant and would continue to be my one and only go-to Chinese restaurant in this area. I even called and praised them after my meal. In fact, I still do to the delivery driver every time. It's strange that, being an American, it took 38 years to discover this was even a thing then move to another region and by some stroke of dumb luck find one again. There just happens to be a select few restaurant owners who actually care enough to serve their patrons the same level of quality they serve for their family and for themselves. I appreciate that. I believe you will, also. Out of respect I am not going to mention the name of the other "Family-Style" restaurant other than the fact that it's in Southington. Both prep their dishes and cuts of meat slightly different, which makes sense since it's homestyle and we are all unique individuals, but neither is actually better than the other in terms of quality. As already mentioned the menu pricing at Chinatown is better due to it remaining competitive with the other cookie-cutter restaurants therefore I did not expect this. Skeptical? simply order the wonton soup and that's enough right there to show you what I mean. Pick one out observe it try it. Notice that it isn't loose & floppy with a gray ball of who_knows_what mixed with filler like you see basically everywhere else. I assume some company or two mass-produces, boxes and freezes the lesser-quality common Wonton we know all too well that is typically served at just about every Chinese restaurant around. It's obvious the Wonton from Chinatown is freshly prepared in the restaurant like a ravioli/tortollini with the same high quality juicy fatty beef inside they use with their beef entries. And talk about AL dente -Stick a fork in it you better eat it or use something to slide it off. Perhaps you once knew of a local restaurant that serves "Family-Style" and you have moved within this area. We'll, then look no further. Chinatown is your spot. Either way if you're a fan of Chinese food just order from Chinatown. You won't regret it. If you haven't had "Authentic" homestyle Chinese food before then you are in for a fantastic treat and I guarantee YOU WILL NOT SETTLE FOR THE 'FACTORY COMMERCIAL-STYLE', AGAIN - if given the choice. Enjoy. *$15 minimum (before tax) for deliveries. $2 Local Delivery Fee "BeyondMenu" App may be used to place your order or pickup, as well.

found a chicken bone in our food, but that wasn’t the issue to why i’m leaving a bad review. i called them to let them know. very unapologetic for what occurred. they told me they couldn’t refund me because we made the purchase on a card. they made up an excuse saying the cook didn’t clean off the chicken properly… i understand mistakes happen, but to say that to a customer and then not take accountability for it is a different story. they ended up telling me i had to drive back to the store to get a refund in cash. did that and to also give them the rest of the food we got (all chicken so didn’t trust it), then they told me they had already refunded the card for that one meal that the bone was in.

Oh no, c'mon man. The pork in the pork fried rice was obviously recycled from an order of boneless sparerib tips. It was very sweet and oily. It ruined the beef and broccoli. Both the order of chicken wings and pork egg rolls were OVER fried. At least 3 times. The food was warm and overall I'm not happy at all. That's sarcasm on a level I can equate. One would think that you would up your game during this pandemic. At a time when people are heavily dependent on take out and delivery. These jokers decided to save and then recycle food into the next dish for that special someone. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I wonder how much food your restaurant feeds us left over from when you all eat your meals? I'll call the health inspector to check in. The customer service leaves a lot to be desired. The greeting falls as flat as the food. I literally feel like I got ripped off. We only eat out once a month and this was a terrible choice. Ugh, so so so terrible!¡! I only have myself to blame for not opening the bag riddled with several staples. It was like I knew it was going to be horrible as I was fighting to open the greasy paper bag. The oil from the wings and egg rolls had slowly dripped and invaded every single item in the bag. Minus the utensils, plates and napkins that were missing. I imagine it's another cost cutting measure. The only thing that was good about this experience was my money. So enjoy my $$$ China Town. You certainly did not deserve it. I feel better knowing that at least the paper bag I helped pay for didn't rip open on the walk back. Maybe you can cut the next patron a break and give them some decent food with some the $ you saved selling me left over and 3 fried wings. I imagine at least 2 out of 10 get to enjoy super duper over fried food along with mystical sweet and oily pork fried BBQ/Duck sauce rice. So yummy. It's too bad I can't share the pictures because my overt disdain for your food simply does it no justice. Feeling like the sucker I am that you saw...
