May 2023 - always happy to return to Sasso's. We chose to sit outside on this warm windy Spring day. The garlic and herb wings were flavorful, crisp and moist but a little oily. The white clam and bacon pizza was a new choice for us from their menu and really delicious. # Another fine meal at Sasso's in August 22. It had been some time since experiencing their shrimp, bacon and spinach pizza with red sauce and we wanted to try it again. Still delivers. Also still excellent are their smoked chicken wings. We ordered half Buffalo and half Garlic and Herb. Two special cocktails, Lavender French and the Perfect Manhattan above par. # If an opportunity presents itself to go to Sasso's, personal or professional, I'm there. Delicious food. Sitting outside after a recent event, a good variety of a dozen pizzas came to our long table, as well as two salads, Caesar and mixed vegetables, and sausage with broccoli rabe. Favorite pizza for me was the white pizza with sausage. # Every time I drive by Sasso's I want to pull over and get a pizza. There is always some pressing appointment, or too small a window to sit down and eat or some other reason it doesn't happen. So the other day driving my partner somewhere nearby, we agreed we didn't care if we only had twenty minutes, we were getting Sasso's pizza. We didn't have time for their wings sadly, but ordered their Meat Head pizza with bacon, sausage, pepperoni and meatball. Even better, we were glad to see we could order two specialty cocktails from the new bar Sasso's built next to their main room and kitchen. Great idea. We would get wine or beer before, but it was the right idea for Sasso's to expand and add a full size bar and tables to their already popular establishment. Our waitress said they put it in around a year ago, which shows how many times we or I have driven by and not been able to stop! Taking photos, I was pleasantly surprised to walk by the door that connects the newer bar to the original space and see the chef was actually tossing our pizza dough high in the air and catching it, in true old style. Each catch and spin the dough got bigger and thinner until it reached the right size to be prepared for the signature coal fired oven. Sasso's has always had a cool interior with high ceilings, wood, metal, exposed brick and a combined rustic but modern feel. The bar space is an extension of this with plenty of tables, a long bar and the same modern soundtrack playing over the speakers. Our service was quick, the pizza was hot and savory and the drinks were well-made in petite glasses. We boxed up what we couldn't finish to enjoy the next day and were only five minutes late! We will find time to enjoy this spot more frequently, it's such a delight. Give it a try if you haven't yet. # We returned here a few days ago and the wings are still double baked and juicy. We tried the meat pizza this time with sausage, pepperoni, bacon and hamburger and it was really good just like their shrimp pizza we usually order. We do find since the crust here is so thin and crispy it's best to eat right there in the restaurant rather than take it to go in a box which steams it in transit to be too moist. # Great smoked wings with a crispy skin from the coal fired oven. Today's pizza was delicious with shrimp, bacon and spinach. Diners have a choice of red or white sauce. Wine and beer bar. Our cappuccinos were really good. The chef came out and asked his patrons how their food was which we appreciated. Their sangria which the menu says is made daily wasn't on hand except for one last glass which we ordered. Tasty.

A Solid Spot for Pizza in Torrington As someone who’s enjoyed pizza from renowned spots in Chicago and Brooklyn, and who’s tried many of the local pizza places in Torrington, I consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to finding a good slice. My go-to pizza is usually a classic pepperoni, so I was intrigued when I saw one of my favorite pizza reviewers give Sasso’s Coal Fired Pizza a high score. After a few months of anticipation, I finally decided to check it out. I’ve been to Sasso’s twice now and have tried both their New Haven style pizza and the Sweet & Spicy Italian. My first visit was focused on exploring these two distinct styles, and while I was excited to try the New Haven style, I found it didn’t quite hit the mark for me. As someone who leans towards pepperoni, the New Haven style just wasn’t something I’d go for again. On the other hand, the Sweet & Spicy Italian really stood out, especially if you’re a pepperoni lover like me. The blend of sweet and spicy elements is a winner. However, on my second visit, I noticed some inconsistency in the flavor. The spice level was toned down significantly, which left me a bit disappointed after such a strong first impression. One thing I will say is that Sasso’s is definitely a spot where dining in makes all the difference. The location next to the Warner Theater is perfect, and the ambiance is lively, especially on the weekends. If you’re after a more immersive pizza experience in the heart of Torrington, this place is a great choice. That said, while I didn’t enjoy the New Haven style and won’t be trying it again, I would still come back for the Sweet & Spicy Italian. But with two large pies setting you back over $60, I’d probably reserve Sasso’s for special occasions rather than a quick pizza fix. If you’re in Torrington and looking for a nice spot to enjoy a meal, this place should be on your list—just be aware that it’s more of a sit-down experience rather than a grab-and-go pizza joint.

Coal fired style is definitely unique. Same sort of crisp you get from a wood fired pizza, but different flavor profile. Awesome taste, crazy crisp. If you like burnt style pizza, this is for you. To me crust should be flavorful but primarily a vessel for toppings and boy do the toppings have flavor. I had the italiano which consists of every delicious meat out there. Great flavor on the sauce and high quality toppings. Although this is single handily the most expensive pizza I ever purchased at $26 (aside from lobster pizza) it's worth the trip if you want something unique. Updated review from 2024: Two separate occasions in the last 3 months we've come where the food was subpar, they forgot our order and were totally ignored all together. The last visit, we were one of TWO couples in the place. We waited for 1.5 hours for a pizza without NO noticed from anybody. Turns out they "burnt" our pizza to start. Then, customers started coming in around 6pm, ordering and getting their orders. 30 minutes later, they told us what happened. Then, they had the audacity to not even offer any semblance of a discount or anything. We ended up leaving hungry with our pizza in our hands, no discount and $90 "F$&% you" out the door. I won't be coming back to Sasso's again. This caused an argument and a figurative and literal bad taste in our mouth. Shame on you Sasso's.

Long review. Very disturbed by last nights treatment. We were told we had to hurry up and eat and leave because they over booked our table. Horrible.

Last evening I made a reservation for three people for dinner at 4pm. I had specified in advance that it was for two adults, and one child which they said they could accommodate with a kid’s highchair, I thought okay this is great. However they sat us with no chair and I had to get up and ask for one (I am 6 months pregnant). We get to the restaurant on time to be sat in at a table right next to the path where people travel the most on the bar side. My friend that came from NJ to visit whom I hadn’t seen is a long time continued to be bumped by servers and staff walking by. It only gets worse. We had a delicious fig and goat cheese appetizer which sat in front of us for the longest time maybe 35-40 minutes and even longer for our main meals to come out. We both got cedar plank salmon cooked the same way. Mine was amazing and hers tasted dry and like bad fishy tasting fish. Maybe 15 minutes into us eating the hostess comes to our table and says they over booked the table we were sitting at and need us to leave before 5:30…. We were not even done eating out entree and were expecting to get coffee and dessert. I was so embarrassed I could have cried. I went to speak to a manager and all she could say was she was so sorry. It is extremely negligent on their behalf to over book a table, or to not give us notice that there was a certain time frame to eat if that was the case. And if there was a certain time frame to eat, it should’ve been their responsibility to make sure our meal flow came out at a timely manner not have us sit for over 45 minutes waiting for our entrée and taking extra time with our appetizer just sitting in front of us. One of the servers came over and packed up the $18 small cheese pizza that we had also got for my daughter without even asking us. The manager then asked if we wanted to move our meal over across the dining room to the window where the Christmas tree was and she would get us a coffee to have there at that point we told her no because we were just so distracted from our meal and thrown off. Who wants to relocate in a crowded restaurant to be pushed to the far corner table. I didn’t understand why this new reservation couldn’t take the table because where we were sitting was not even a good location. But if it was a matter of my daughter, there was another child there as well, and mine was quietly playing with my phone. There was also another large table party that was there before we arrived and there when we left and not hurried off so abruptly. We packed our stuff was giving a discount and 50$ gift card which I threw in the trash. Nothing would change that humiliating feeling of being told we need to leave shortly. As soon as they said that changed our entire emotion and vine of our evening when it was their wrong doing over booking and taking too long to bring us our meals to be able to eat them fast enough. Im sorry but I'm not going to stuff my face as fast as I can to help you out. Our meals were both 25$. Its not like we came there and shared a small pizza. Our bill should have been a good 145-150$. My friend got a expresso martini, bottle of sparkling water for the table that we had no time to finish drinking, sodas, juice, appetizer… Will NOT go back. A shame. Because it was close to Christmas Village where...

I have been going to Sasso's since it opened. Even when prices began rising and portions diminishing, I still went back in-person and for take-out. Never again.

We arrived about 45 minutes before the kitchen closed, but were told "We don't really having a closing time, so you can stay late after the kitchen closes". We ordered food and drinks, and tried to enjoy our night. But the waitress began checking on us too often, as if to hurry us up. She grabbed plates that still had food on them and wanted to combine what we still had so she could take dishes away. Imagine having one person's meal combined with yours. This was before the kitchen closed, so we were confused. Then, she started sweeping around our table, and brought us take out boxes before when had indicated we were done eating, which we weren't. We were told we had plenty of time, right?

She brought the check while we were still eating, and when we had not asked for it, and lurked while we signed, making the tip experience uncomfortable. The second the slip was signed, the waitress literally grabbed it and said, "I'm taking this now because I want to go home", and walked away. She disappeared to, as we saw on our way out, count her money in the front window as others in different sections were eating and ordering drinks.

So we left, as we were clearly not wanted there for no reason, even though we would have stayed later to order more drinks. It was not yet 11, and we were made to feel as if our presence alone was keeping the place open, even though there were at least 10 other customers there. We wanted nothing but a nice night of food and drinks. Instead, we were treated poorly for ordering food at an open restaurant, with an open kitchen from a server whose demeanor suggests that, perhaps, she should consider being in a profession that in no way involves interacting with others.

Maybe someone else could have covered our table? I understand people have defined hours, of course, but I have never had service stopped all together, and without a change in servers.

When I went by after 1am, people were still at the bar drinking. While the now-shrunken $20 wings were already giving me pause, my knowledge that I'm a burden for simply ordering at an open and busy restaurant will remind me never to go back, even for takeout. There are too many other options where food does not come with a...
