Charlie's Diner — Restaurant in Town of Aurora

Hello, we visited 12/27/24 for lunch with the family. The place was recommended by a friend and we noticed the positive reviews.

We walked in at a moderately busy time mid-day and were greeted by an older waitress with bleach blonde hair. She was the type clearly just waiting to punch the clock and go home, not very pleasant.

We get seated at a booth after a short wait. The booth was ok, but seats were torn up pretty bad. A look around, it was apparent that everything was pretty dirty(a few years worth of dust on the pendant fixtures, floor dirty, etc). Then, the waitress informed us that they were very busy all day (multiple times) and took our drink orders. She had her hair flying everywhere(likely into the food at times...she really needs to pull it back) and was coughing all over the place, clothes were dirty, etc. Just an overall unkempt, unpleasant waitress. She then brought over DIRTY silverware and proceeded to set the table upside down. (Yes, the tines of the fork were pointing toward us, just bizarre...lol).

We got the food, which for the price was "fine". My daughter's grilled cheese had some cheap cheese product that wasn't even melted. The pancakes, waffles, and "Helicopter fried bologna" were fine. Also, the waitress never checked on us or asked if we needed anything(no surprise there)

It may seem like it in this review, but I am not typically very picky. Overall, if you visit this place and get a different waitress you could have a somewhat acceptable...

Have come here a few times, but today was the last. Three of us sat down and ordered our food nothing extravagant just sandwiches. Not a lot of people in the diner when we sat down and ordered our food took over 35+ minutes to get to the table for two in the group and the last took over 40+ minutes again just sandwich's not that complex. Waitress says they had a huge take-out order that’s why it took so long “don’t you believe it” we watched others come in after us and order and get their food and leave before us. Check came to the table had to split up between the 3 of us went to the register and had each of our meals on our own and sticker shock 2 of the sandwiches were 3 dollars more than in the menu “WOW” when questioned the price we were told we the owner updated the register but not the menu’s. Service is fast but not great, food is a average. You can’t request onions in your eggs because the owner only does things a certain way. Really wierd people in this place. Only feels like they are inbred employees. Place is pretty dated, feels like you are at a nursing home, unfortunately this place stays open because there is no other breakfast places nearby. If there even a Denny’s around I’m confident this place would go out of business! The entrance is full of building material and is completely cluttered, not only is it unsafe but it looks like the inside of someone’s shed. Been there twice and would never go back, personally hope it gets bought out by an owner who is not lazy.
