Okay, I must say my first visit there which was two weeks ago was great I went there with a group of friends, the service was impeccable. The ambiance was just right and I felt since I am part Cuban the food better be on point, and it was, it came in abundance. I had Sancocho, empanadas, maduros, arroz y condules, which is just Spanish rice w/ peas &sweet bananas.I couldn't even finish it all it was just too much food. The sangria was so freshing and it wasn't watered down. We all left a very healthy tip. On Sunday January 6th, I went back with my besty who actually introduced me to the restaurant and my sister, it was her 1st time I was bragging and told her she's going to LOVE it there especially the food. Since we weren't quite hungry, just hungry enough where the food would stop the cravings, so she and I ordered appetizers. I basically ordered the same thing as last time except the (stew) Sancocho and Sangria. She ordered the beef Empanada's, my besty ordered Salmon in garlic sauce, white rice and a side dish of Sancocho. While waiting, a basket of warm garlic bread was served, we tore into them like there was no tomorrow, unfortunately we had to ask for another one which means our waitress wasn't very attentive, it wasn't very crowded so that couldn't be used as an excuse, which proved to be correct as the evening progressed. Our food arrived and again a nice sized portion for appetizers. My friend who ordered a whole meal was satisfied, didn't hear a peep out of her as for myself and my big sister it was a disaster. She doesn't complain, she feels, I think, what's the use, well I didn't feel that way. I wondered why my sister stopped eating after a few bites, remember all she had was the beef Empanada's, I had started with the rice and sweet bananas. The rice lacked that Latin (sabor) flavor,Sofrito y Recaito and was rather warm. The manduros was horrible, cool, not even warm, very greasy, heavy and burnt, charred to some people, you expect that from an in and out bodega serving Spanish food like on fifth ave.in Brentwood and Bay Shore but not at an established restaurant. The worse part was the Empanadas. OMGdness, now I know why my sister stopped eating and I felt sooooo bad, they were sooooooo SALTY, horribly salty!!! No way could they be enjoyed even the Chicken Empanada was as well. The consistency of the chix was mushy and the beef had the consistency of a can of beef out of the local Pantry.Talk about disappointed?!! Meanwhile, the waitress had only came over once without proding. Actually when I told her about the food she was accomodating, I was going to order something else and split it with my sister, I decided not to, it was getting late and we were getting tired. She removed the two orders of Empanadas, I just paid for the rice and banana's. The Menu is full of authentic Cuban dishes, nicely presented and nicely priced. $9for three cut in half with small bowl of sauce; Manduros $6 for a medium sized bowl;the rice well I totally forgot. The Salmon meal came to $21 and it was worth it. Maybe a different chef was on last night, but something was truly OFF. To be fair, I'll not abandon a lovely place because of one bad experience. Judge for yourselves, you may very well LOVE this little Latin Diamond in the ruff. Let is know. I will give it 3stars due to this past...
Read moreIf ZERO stars could be given that would be what this place deserves. It is truly dissapointing to see what others worked so hard to establish on Long Island be thrown to rubble by younger generations. I attempted to eat at this restaurant with a group of 8 people, in which I called ahead of time to confirm if this was possible, I was told it would be, so in good faith I took the 30 minute drive there.
Upon arrival we were told it would be at least half an hour before the next table cleared up. After 40 minutes of waiting outside, when entering the restaurant, the next 30 minute wait began at the entrance next to the bar. The hostess did not acknowledge or cared that she had stated the table would be cleaned and prepared, even though it wasnât. The hostess seemed to be more inclined on giving attention to the local âthugsâ at the bar. Not once did anyone come over to excuse themselves for the wait or explain that they would attempt to get us a table, after such a long wait. We literally went in there to just wait longer than we waited outside and stare at everyone doing everything, but insuring that we were seated. The bar is the most important part of this restaurant, not true menu and client service.
Going to this tight hole in a block will actually be a disservice to you, avoid at all costs. There are plenty of other absoulutely amazing Dominican Restaurants on the Island which were the building blocks for this sad excuse of a Dominican restaurant. Just to name a few Mi Casa(Freeport), The Dominican Restaurant(Uniondale), Dominican Restaurant 4(Farmingdale), Punta Cana Dominican Grill(Westbury), El Sabor Dominicano(Freeport) and the list goes on and on. Once again this establishment is not the place to consider going ever, it is truly a waste of your money and time. Do not let the fancy pictures fool you this place is not about quality whatsoever. Please do not encourage their disastrous business practices, as in times like these it is very important to spend your money where it will actually be...
Read moreLocated on 231 just north of the Southern State Parkway in a strip shopping center, this quaint local Dominican family restaurant is the real deal. With food tasting like it was cooked at home, it reserves the overabundance of seasons and allows the natural flavors to out-shine each dish. Keeping the dishes simple and flavorful, everything is made from fresh ingredients that brings out the true flavors of the culture. The welcoming staff and very informative Manager Chris made our new experience extremely delightful. His recommendations were right on, his attentiveness to us and attention to details were well appreciated.
We started with the Beef Empanadas and the Chicharron. The empanadas presented a sweet velvety beef filling with a soft light pastry outside accompanied by a fresh mango/pepper salsa. The Chicharron, fried pork belly, was crisp, fresh and accompanied with a colorful chimchurri salsa.
For our Entrees we chose a simple chicken dish called Pechuga with a garlic sauce and a vegetable Monfongo. The Veggie Monfongo was prepared traditionally with crispy plantains, mashed garlic, sofrito and chopped vegetables. Presented beautifully this light fare dish was balanced well and definitely a perfect dish for those who want to be a bit more conservative on their dinner selection. However I selected the Churasco. A skirt steak with chimichurri and sauteed onions. I also selected the traditional Monfongo with the chicharron. Crispy texture and absolutely amazing. The steak was cooked to perfection, tender and flame broiled.
The atmosphere is primarily a family presence with family generations present at each table. Grandma, mom, dad and kids. It really shows that this is an authentic establishment catering to the Dominican community and a great example of a cross-culture experience for us that are new to the cuisine. This restaurant is a hidden treasure and certainly a place we...
