Well it's cute and a decent selection of goodies. Now, I am a baker and so is my cousin and neither of us would visit this bakery again. First offense: a custard fruit tart. Don't buy it. It's not custard. It's not even cooked. We both think it's instant. Definitely no egg yolks in it. It's not even a vanilla pudding, nor a pastry cream. Actually it's very plain, flavorless, and slightly gritty. Honestly, we can't place what the filling is. And surprise.. It also has a chocolate layer over the crust under the custard. (Whyyy???) My cousin also suspects the crust is a cookie dough instead of a tart pastry dough. 5 of us were super disappointed on this one. I also was craving a sponge strawberry jelly roll. Skip that one also unless you like jelly by the cupful. Ratios are off. The smear of jelly is in excessive blobs. Also, I am not sure why trays of baked goods were out on the counters while staff was walking back and forth past them where hair could easily fall upon them. So that being said, Italian cookies were standard. Breads and other goodies might be ok here, but I won't be back to find out. Personally, I like a bakery that is consistent...
Read moreThis place is it! I used to always go to a neighboring bakery ... and was on the hunt for an ole fashioned ricotta cheesecake for an elderly parent. I Couldn't find it anywhere. Decided to take a chance and stopped into Mario's. And was I glad that I did. Not only did they have a ricotta cheesecake... it was less expensive than a plain cheesecake from the other bakery in town..it was delicious.. but they had a horn pastry filled with fresh cream that was is unbelievable! The service was extremely friendly. I felt like I was being serviced by the owner/Baker. It is definitely a real ole fashioned bakery..from years gone by. Items you would never find anywhere else. The ricotta cheesecake made my elderly parents very happy. When you hear praise from an ole Italian woman who cooked and baked everything her whole life..you know it had to be...
Read moreA good Italian bakery has a unique smell. A sweet symphony of butter, vanilla and almond oil. That’s the first thing that greets you upon entering. The second is how spotlessly clean the place is. Next is the outstanding quality of their product. It’s hard to make a decision when you want everything. They have a variety of pastries, cookies, cakes, bread, and so on Cranberry muffin was rich, not too sweet and loaded with plump cranberries. Brownie was an old school recipe made with walnuts, bitter chocolate, and butter instead of cocoa powder. The best I’ve had since forever. A classic almond horn dipped in quality dark chocolate, and a melt in your mouth apple tart with butterscotch aftertaste made a perfect score. Very happy I stumbled upon Mario’s. I’ll be...
