Stopped by the other day to buy a gift certificate for my dad and to eat here. A few decades ago, there were a couple of taco places in Batavia and, as a young kid, by dad took me to both. Fast forward to today, That Taco Place is the survivor of the two. You used to be able to pull up newspaper articles about this restaurant, and the young school teacher who quit his full time job to open it with nothing but the simplest recipes. Well, the recipes have not changed one iota, and that decision to become an entrepreneur, I suspect, has been a very profitable one for Joe and his family. Ordered a tostada: you have to order refried beans with meat (called a combo). This is like specifying a pizza with tomato paste and cheese as a combo.
Order taker asked if i wanted a hard shell or soft shell.
Me: soft shell would be an unfolded soft shell taco.
Server: blank look "no".
To eat a soft shell tostada would require folding to manage eating it...whaalaa a soft taco.
Tostada in Spanish means " toasted". How do you not know this?
There is no such thing as a non refried bean paste tostada or soft shell Tostada on the planet except for "that taco place".
Taco bell knows more about Mexican food than this place.
Tostada: deep fried or oven baked tortilla, refried bean paste, topped with beef, lettuce, tomato slices and shredded cheese.....PERIOD!

If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Wish I would have just gone to Taco Bell. Me and my husband ate there last night (take out) I got a “taco salad” that cost $6.50, $0.40 for added onion, $0.50 for sour cream there was ZERO taco seasoning in the ICE COLD beef. No flavor in the salsa. The tomato Was literally 1 1/2 slices not even diced. The peppers were just sliced in huge finger length chunks. I paid for extra sour cream, didn’t get any at all. My husband got 2 tacos and the beef was the same, ice cold and not seasoned. Almost no cheese. I live 3 minutes away, there is no reason it should have been that cold. I do not recommend this...
