Came here for LI Restaurant Week for dinner for 2 and was very pleased with my choice for this year!
Immediately as I walked into to the unassuming front, I was greeted by maybe the warmest opening I've ever received at a restaurant (shout out to the hostess, I think her name was Theresa!) and was sat a table that even had a little sign with my name on it that said reserved, very cute added touch. Service never felt rushed and the staff all around were very helpful with any questions and asks.
Ambiance is great, a small speakeasy style retro decor that still makes you feel just a little bit posh without it feeling like being too formal. Most importantly to me though, sound levels were perfect, could hear my date perfect, no need to yell or lean in just to enjoy each other's company.
Starting out with drinks, we had the Bee's Knees (a delightfully sweet and refreshing gin drink as the warm weather finally comes to a close) and the red sangria (as classic as any sangria I've had elsewhere).
We did the price fixed menu for restaurant week so for starters we had the fried calamari and the lamb chops. Both delicious but my personal favorite was the calamari, and they did not skimp on the portion! For entrees we got the Filet mignon and the duck l'orange. Duck can be tough to get right, but it's one of my favorites so when I see it on a menu, I often go cross-eyed and order without a second thought. And I'm glad I did. The steak was tender and delicious, but the duck had the perfect chew and delicious savory sauce to go with it. Normally I'm a roasted potatoes over mashed kind of guy, but Chops mashed was definitely my preferred of the two we tried, perfectly smooth and buttery, without being too rich. Lastly for dessert, we had the chocolate cake and the puff pastry with vanilla ice cream and peaches. They use the word decadent to describe this cake and that is no false advertising, it is rich and a chocolate lovers wet dream, not to mention I'm a sucker for anything paired with a raspberry sauce. The pastry is an excellent lighter choice too, the peaches were sweet and fresh and definitely a great complement to a meal that might be on the heavier side.
Parking can be a little spotty to find in Patchogue around main street on a busy night, but there is street parking and some municipal lots around if you don't mind walking a bit. I also believe they have valet service on Friday nights and weekends if you're really feeling swanky.
This is a great little steak house hidden among so many other big names, but I think you should really prioritize this place if you want something a little bit extra special in every little department. I know I'd be happy to come back and try more of the menu, as long as my wallet isn't...
Read moreI was excited about the opening of a high end steak house in Patchogue but was disappointed that the place fell short. The prices are consistent with a top notch restaurant, our bill was about $1.2k for 8 people, which seems on par. The food quality was acceptable except for the low quality bread that did not seem fresh. To me, even though I don’t eat it, if Im going to recommend or take guests to a good restaurant, the bread should be delicious. It shows attention to detail. The staff was not well versed on the menu, although the head waiter seemed to be aware that some staff needed support in that area and he did work hard to back up wait staff in helping guests decide on food choices and run plates. The acoustics were poor which makes for a unnecessarily loud dining experience. They did attempt to add some fabric with velvet curtains, but could use consultation in this area to improve sound quality for better dining experience. The main shortcoming, that for me shows lack of care for guests and low quality, is the restroom. I was actually shocked at how poor it was since there seemed to be attention to detail in other areas. The bathroom was akin to a gas station bathroom or a public venue bathroom. The decor was acceptable however, the sink has touch knobs and no paper towels are offered. There is a wall mounted hand dryer. This requires a person to touch the dirty sink handles then stand in front of a loud dehumanizing electric dryer with nothing to properly wipe their hands with. A wall dryer is fine for touchless sink systems, but it is poor infection control with a touch sink. The other property Drift does the same thing, but I assumed they treat the customers poorly in this area because they are close to the water and are not “high end”. A nice restaurant has a bathroom attendant, a tray with toiletries, high quality handtowels (for example, Nobu in Manhattan has large plush paper handtowels with their logo on them in a brass canister, btw, the wagu beef there is to die for). Sometimes an added nice touch is fresh flowers or a scented candle. This bathroom had nothing. At the very least, a basket of paper towels in the bathroom would be a huge improvement. I go to many high caliber restaurants and appreciate the work that goes into creating a fine dining experience, Chops was pretty close but fell short...
Read moreI cannot say enough good things about this place. I frequent every steak house on LI and honestly- this is my #1. To start- the ambiance and theme. Love the speakeasy vibes, the small attention to detail (lighting, decor) and the intimate vibe of this small place. The service was IMPECCABLE. We were greeted at the door by the host (and I believe one of the owners?) JP with a smile and beautiful greeting. Best first impression. Our waitress, Catherine, was probably the best waitress I’ve ever had. She was SO sweet, attentive, quick to respond and really made us feel welcome and appreciated. I’d recommend asking for her as your server because you’ll be guaranteed an amazing dining experience. The kitchen was prompt but we did not feel rushed at all. My favorite part of the entire experience was the time they allotted between each course (wine first, appetizer second, soup third, entree and then desert). It gave ample time for the waitress to clean plates away and tidy the table between courses and I felt like every dime spent there was worth it for the length of the experience we had. The food… I am speechless. The lobster bisque was the best I ever had. Chunks of fresh lobster and the bisque itself was full of flavor. We got the thick cut bacon appetizer and it was delicious. The entrees were cooked perfectly (petit filet and whipped potatoes) and the bone marrow butter was out of this WORLD. I would drink it straight. We got the bananas foster for 1 to split for desert (it’s a very large portion for one person- no need to get the portion for 2) and it was also so tasty. A bottle of champagne and a shot of espresso for drinks. We got to talking with our wait staff and they told us about their complimentary shuttle from their further parking lot on the weekends which is super thoughtful and goes above and beyond all the other patchogue restaurants. I can’t wait to try their boozy brunch on a Sunday soon. This place really provides the full experience you look for when going to an upscale steakhouse and I couldn’t be more pleased. The prices were actually very on par with other steakhouses locally, if not cheaper. For all our food, champagne (moet & Chandon) and desert/drinks we spent about 300$ on the bill. Very worth it. I will definitely be back for many future...
