Let me start by saying I am a long time member of the community and have been a loyal customer since their opening. I have a bachelors degree in food service and restaurant and have worked in many aspects of the food industry, and am still currently management in the hospitality industry. I decided to meet my mother for dinner at Heritage diner because we could not decide where we wanted to eat and knew Heritage is a reasonably priced restaurant with a good selection of fresh, quality food based on over a decade of experience dining here. This evening that couldn't be further from the truth. Almost everything came out of the kitchen was not bad, it was inedible. I ordered the chicken cordon bleu dinner. The only thing I could eat was the "Greek salad" which was a bowl of lettuce several slices of cucumber and green pepper and a handful of olives and feta. The next thing that came out was the "fried calamari". I Attempted to eat 1 bite out of curiosity and obligation and could not. Clearly frozen, artificial, under cooked and swimming in grease. My mother was brave enough to try one piece and needless to say the whole dish went back to the kitchen. My final course was the actual chicken cordon blu. In my professional experience it was fake chicken, processed ham, microwaved, swimming in a salty sauce and topped with a disgusting amount of cheese. The dish looked like a dirty diaper and tasted even worse than one. I won't even get started on the mushy, over cooked rice (most likely microwaved also). My mom ordered a grilled chicken entree with a side of sautéed spinach. There was so much oil in the bottom of the plate we probably could put Exxon out of business if we brought it home with us. Unfortunalty we received the whole bill even though most of the food was not consumed. This is ok, I work in the business and certainly do not expect something comped however I felt responsible to relay the outragesly poor quality of the food to the owner/manager while paying the bill in hopes that he would take my advise and look in to it as to not give future customers as poor of an experience as we had. The gentlemen at the counter could not care less. Barely and apology and no acceptance of guilt. Again in my professional opinion Heritage diner needs to either stop cutting corners or close their doors or sell their business to someone who actually cares because clearly the current ownership has given up. This long time customer is taking Heritage diner off of their list of "go to"...

I am writing this review on June 30, 2023, with a heavy heart following a highly disappointing experience at Heritage Diner in Mt. Sinai. My 11-year-old son and I have been regular patrons of this place, particularly fond of their cheeseburgers. However, our recent visit over the 4th of July weekend was overshadowed by an incredibly distressing incident of poor service and what I believe to be discrimination.
We were initially seated by a lovely young lady, but the server who took our order was rude to an extreme. When I suggested we could be served by someone else if she was too busy, she instructed us to move to another part of the diner. As a customer, I found this to be completely unacceptable. The most upsetting part was that this all happened in front of my young son.
The situation escalated when I asked for the manager, only to be told that she was the manager. She refused to give her name and suggested we go elsewhere. Even the front desk staff were hesitant to provide any information about the owner of the establishment when asked. This lack of transparency and accountability left us feeling unwelcome and disrespected.
I believe in giving credit where it's due, and we've had many pleasant experiences at Heritage Diner in the past. But this incident was incredibly disappointing and it has tarnished our view of this establishment. I'm sharing this experience not out of anger, but in the hope that no other customer, especially those with young children, has to go through something similar. No one should feel discriminated against when they are simply trying to enjoy a meal. We don't take discrimination lightly, and neither should...
Read moreI try not to leave negative reviews, but tonight's experience earned it, and I was generous with 2 stars. A Monday evening, not busy. Our dinners came with soup and/or salad to start, and usually they come out right away (it seemed like a long wait) Instead the server chose to bring them out with our appetizer, which we ordered the choose your own sampler platter. As everything was brought to the table, she drops the entire tray. Okay, stuff happens, she is apologetic and we sympathize. Another wait. The Greek salad, standard, can't really mess that up. The French Onion soup tasted like salty water. The appetizer sampler platter: baked clams were a soggy, bread crumb, flavorless mixture. Clam strips burned beyond being edible, chicken fingers were fine, as was the spanokopeta bites. My dinner was the steak teriyaki, a small portion, but edible, nothing spectacular. My husband had the parmagiana trio: chicken, shrimp and eggplant. Terrible! The chicken was tough and stringy, the eggplant was burned and the shrimp was burned on the outside and a chewy mess on the inside. The only sauce the spaghetti underneath had, was whatever dripped off the trio on top. The check arrives, with no mention of a discount for the dropped appetizer inconvenience or even an offer of a complimentary dessert. We are not the "Karens" to ask or demand, but that was disappointing customer service. The overall experience was enough to keep us...
