Homerun! Went to Amici in Mt Sinai last night for the very first time. After living in the area for 36 years, I can't really say why we've never stopped in to try it out. But now that we have, OMG, it's going to be a new favorite! Prompt friendly greeting upon arrival. Cozy, warm and romantic atmosphere with fireplaces. Who knew ? Creative bread basket delivered promptly, accompanied by herb infused olive oil, nice touch. Ordered a glass of house red cab sauv, generous pour, attractive glass, (that's a biggie for me) and the wine was lovely. Hubby ordered shrimp parm, which comes with side of pasta. For a small upcharge, he ordered his pasta with Alfredo sauce. I ordered chicken parm and went with the alla vodka sauce on my pasta for the small upcharge. Well! We haven't enjoyed a meal THAT good in ages ! The chicken was perfect, just the way I like it, with some peek-a-boo crispy edges, as opposed to being smothered in sauce. The cheese was perfectly toasted and the sauce was fantastic. Same comments apply to the shrimp, they were perfect, perfectly tender and firm simultaneously, with crispy edges, without a hint of that iodine taste that shrimp can sometimes have. The alla vodka sauce was dreamy...it does come with small bits of meat (prosciutto maybe?) and although I usually prefer my alla vodka to be meatless, this one did not disappoint because the meat is cut into very small pieces, lovely. Now, onto the Alfredo sauce. Omg, the ONLY thing that could make it better is if somehow almighty God intervened and granted us the ability to eat it calorie free ! I must say it was the BEST Alfredo sauce I've had, anywhere. We shared a piece of cheesecake to top off this wonderful meal, (which, btw, we both took home enough leftovers for another meal, each). The cheesecake was a generous size in both slice and height that I thought, at first, maybe we hadn't read menu carefully enough and it was Italian style, because that type usually is fluffier and an all-around larger slice. But it wasn't the ricotta type, it was the real deal, NY style, rich dense cream cheese type, dressed with a generous amount of whipped cream. The crust on the cheesecake was amazing ! Wow ! What a meal! Our only regret is that we hadn't tried this place sooner ! It is, without question, our new favorite ! It checked all of the boxes, and I'm a real fussy type! Lol ! Five stars from me ! You'll be seeing us again! Soon ! Yay ! UPDATE NOVEMBER 2020: We have gone back 7 - 8 times since my original review and this place CONSISTENTLY knocks my socks off! Bravo! Really!...
Read moreNew outdoor patio experience .. not good. Been to Amici more times than I can count over the years, but lately it seems they are slipping. Last time we ate there BC (Before Covid), we had apps at the bar for happy hour and the Calamari tasted rancid. The server was less than hygienic, touching her face and at one point even picking at her teeth.. gross. We chalked it up to one bad time, as we usually like Amici. So we went today to get out of the house and have some outdoor food in the new "area". 1) DO NOT WEAR HEELS LADIES!! The gravel floor is very course, like medium sized rocks, you will destroy your heels and you will have a hard time walking.. poor choice of flooring. 2) they are WAY understaffed. The servers now have to run 3-4x as far for everything . It slows everything to a crawl. We were there for almost 2 hours for an app and a salad/pizza. They got my pizza order wrong, I kindly offered to eat the mistake pizza instead, because I liked that one as well. I clearly stated to the runner that I did not want another pizza rushed .. I will gladly eat the one you brought. Runner said," i probably grabbed the wrong one, i m sure its back there". Proceeds to come back 5 minutes later with a clearly undercooked pizza, chef cut of an end of the raw dough to hide it from us. there was hard burnt sand like consistency underneath. it was like.. dirty.raw dough, cheese still in separated strands, wet underneath..tasted .. just gross. I ate one slice and was nauseated ... and then we waited for 45 minutes for our bill. Poor waitress was completely swamped. While waiting the busgirl came and asked if I wanted pizza boxed. i said" no it was terrible, I could barely eat a slice". She goes " oh sorry", and takes the pizza and throws it in the trash. No " would you like me to get you anything else, need to see a manager, need to see your waitress?" She could care less and was basically like" well that sucks for you , have a good one!" I informed the waitress of the unprofessionalism and she comped the pizza, apologized for the young busgirl. Dawn is a great waitress, I hope they get her the help she needs to do her job. Every table was looking around , waiting for food, audible grumbling everywhere. But , seriously , that's 2 bad experiences in a row after a decade of going. if I hadn't been there numerous times, this would be a 1 star review. My wife and I seriously doubt we will be back.. which is sad. That white pizza was the worst pizza Ive ever had in my...
