Taco Island Mexican Cantina — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

BEWARE...My experience at this Taco Tex Mex (TTM) Mt. Sinai...most if not all times at this location my food has been great, when the order is made correctly. I have had an unfortunate incident my last visit, 7/18/24. Today, I placed my order online as I always have, but Today did not go as orders in the past. Today when my order was placed online through TTM website via Toast, I received 2 confirmation emails. My first email confirmation was under my name and email but the order had the wrong amount I paid and it was listed under a different credit card number. Then I received another email confirmation 30 secs later under my name, email and with correct amount and credit card number. I had concerns why my name and number were associated with someone else's credit card information. I called TTM and spoke with employee who told me everything was correct but I insisted things were incorrect with billing info. I went to pick up my food and get to the bottom of this issue. Everything shown to me at TTM on Toast security website according to transactions today I placed an order but not on my bank card. It showed on the Toast website my last time I ordered was in June not showing my current purchase today 7/18/24. The order that came up was listed on or for a different credit card number but undr my name and email. The owner was called to come to the location to assist with resolving this issue. He came 25 mins after my order was due to even be picked up, my order was at 230pm for 247pm pick up, owner did not show up till 320pm. Upon showing up the owner got Toast security online to assist with the transaction mishap. According to Toast my order was made but with a credit card that was not mine, and According to Toast my last time ordering from TTM was early June 2024. Nothing stated anything with my credit card info and my order under my credit card. I left TTM and went to my bank to determine if I was charged as well as some stranger. I was charged $74.03 and someone else under a different credit card number was charged $68.00 for the same order minus 1 taco in the 68.00 order, but both under my name and email. I told the owner about my being charged $74.03 on my bank account, but he had no record through Toast of my transaction, only someone else credit card. When the owner was pressed about this and the possibility that someone got charged for my order, he didn't seemed concerned, very not caring. He said what do you want me to do. He wanted me to take my food which had been sitting on the counter for an hour, I told him to cancel my order, he said fine. I told the owner how disappointed I was with the response he gave, his not caring attitude when I told him I was canceling my order and he wouldn't see me again. Like no skin off his back. Very disheartening. My family spends $1200-$1500 a year in this establishment, always very pleased with the food and service. This day was concerning and troubling. The thought that TTM was double charging for an order or taking money from a strangers credit card even after they were notified that the order was incorrect. I was charged, I will have charges reversed tomorrow at my bank, but some poor soul was charged $68.00 dollars for food they did not receive, and the owners response was, shrugged shoulders, he had no concern he was losing a loyal customer, very unfortunate. Wow!!! What an amazing experience we had with Island Taco catering our daughter's Sweet 16.

It first started with a very high recommendation from our close friends who hired Island Taco for their Daughter's Graduation. They gave us Ann & Armon's contact info and said they were amazing to deal with. After our first conversation with Ann & Armon, we already knew we made the right decision. From the food options & pricing, to the calming tone of their voices, we knew they wanted us to enjoy our party and they would take care of all the catering. After our initial discussion, they hosted a tasting for our family at their Mount Sinai restaurant where they allowed us to test all varieties of food. We were very happy with the variety and taste of everything. Also, the service was amazing!! For our party, we opted for the Live Taqueria instead of the food truck. This was definitely the right choice for us. It allowed us to see the food being made and interact with the chefs: Frank, Jose, & Sagar. These guys were so friendly and made really good food. They also brought in a server to make sure all our guests were served and to clean up.

Now to the food…

Since we had a very large party, we had a pretty big menu. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!! So much food. We could have filled up on just the appetizers. I kept telling everyone to make room for the entrees and dessert. I have to say my favorites are the chicken and steak chimichangas, fish tacos, shrimp tacos, steak quesadillas, but there was so much more good food. Ah, I can't forget the churros with ice cream… so good.

We had some guests that were allergic to seafood. For them, they cleaned off the grill and made food to their liking. We also had a vegetarian. The chefs were happy to whip up a large vegetarian meal which we were told was amazing.

It's been days since the party and everyone that we speak with keeps telling us how great the food was.

i loved it from the moment i ordered it. i ordered delivery through their website (i hate third party delivery apps so i was very happy to see they had their own delivery service). i was pumped to see that i could order through the site because i hate talking on the phone. the delivery man arrived within the time frame and called me about two minutes before he arrived and was very kind to me. also, i did not have a delivery fee added to my bill after i exceeded a certain amount, which i was pleasantly surprised about. then came the moment i have been waiting for for months, eating the birria tacos. they became popular on tiktok a few months ago and every time i see one my mouth waters because they look so delicious. i had to have them. my hometown doesn’t have anywhere that sells these specific tacos so you can imagine my reaction to taco island being close to my school WITH delivery. i got 4 of them (2 of each meat) and chips and guac and my total was still under $20. amazing. it arrives. i disassembled the bag and almost fainted at the sight of these tacos. then i dipped the taco in the sauce. then i bit it. i saw god himself. after months of mental preparation for one of these damn tacos, it was everything i wanted and more. i preferred the pork but that’s just because i’m not a huge steak fan in general. the sauce was so delicious and flavorful. the tacos still had a perfect amount of crunch and warmth despite having to endure delivery in a closed box. the amount of cheese was perfect. and then, the meat. so tender. so flavorful. so delicious. i somehow ate all 4 (i usually have a smaller appetite) and now i am writing this, full as a pig on my couch writing this. i will definitely be daydreaming about these tacos and for sure will be...
