My niece loves his place. Well she loved it when it was kumo until a mistake was made and now it's reopened.
So we decided to give it a second chance. They have a 50% off birthday meal and it's her birthday so she wanted to go here so we came back. There's no better time to come back then someplace trying to redeem itself. They're going to treat you better than ever expected. And they did. Everything's fresh and new and they're ready to go.
Service was five times better than it used to be. They're just on top of everything they want us to come back they want to win you back and they will show it.
Complimentary edamame as we sat down. The waitresses were very attentive. The manager came over to ask how we were doing a few times.
The hibachi chef was one of the best I've seen with his tricks and the way that he took the food was too perfection. A lot of times you'll get overcooked things at these places cuz it's a rush rush but no rush rush here we sat as long as we wanted they didn't push food out.
We had shrimp hibachi filet mignon hibachi for all of us. Hibachi fried rice is always just a favorite.
It's just a beautiful space. Especially the bar I just love the bar area. Quite a difference from when it was the ponderosa back...

Recommendation: sashimi
Food: I ordered a sashimi appetizer, a Hawaii bowl, and the Matcha crepe cake. They served two small salmon appetizers on the house, which is very sweet. One had edamame and mango (a bit ripe), and the other mixed with avocado was yummy. My sashimi appetizer includes crab stick, red snapper, tuna, and salmon. The Hawaii bowl contains fish roes and nuts with soy sauce flavor. It was a pleasant experience before going to the desserts section.
Advantage: convenient location. Close to 347 and Stony Brook Road.
Read moreHave been dining here for some time, even when this location was Kumo. Hirosaki though cares a bit better than Kumo did about food and service. The food is always fresh, and the staff is mostly very pleasant. Occasionally a new employee will start, and it takes them time to adapt, but they care a great deal about service and food. I know the atmosphere is supposed to be dark to set mood, but, sometimes I like a bit of light when I eat a meal. Not a deal breaker for sure, and if I really want light, I can go over to the hibachi area, but I usually go for the sushi. Not to take away from the hibachi which is absolutely delicious, and their hibachi chefs are high quality and well trained. I continue to dine here regularly with my family as they make our experiences positive and strive to continuously improve. Definitely recommend if you’re in the Nesconset/Setauket area or are otherwise heading out...
