J & R's Steak House — Restaurant in Town of Brookhaven

Go to Mcdonalds!!!! Ive been going to J&R's for years when the stonybrook one was open. This by far is the worst ever. It was so hot and I asked the waiter FOUR times to please make it cooler...its 80 degrees out and they have the thermostat set at 75 degrees!! Ordered a greek salad it came out with no dressing...after my daughter had to get up from her meal to get the waiter the cook after a good 60 seconds brough out a dressing. I poured the dressing on and tasted it like ITALIAN...italian dressing on a greek salad?!! They said thats what they use and its homemade...it looked a lot like a wishbone imitation bottle purchased from the nearest stop and shop, it was a thickish yellow dressing...i couldnt tolerate it. I gave it back and sat there while the rest of my family ate their dinner in the humid muggy restaurant. As my 9year old ate her chicken fingers she saw a hair after eating half of it. Not only was it a hair it was a baked in hair about 2 inches long!!!! I called of the manager over, she put on her GLASSES and said hmm i cant see it...as we sat there for a good 15 seconds playing find the hair in the chicken finger she asked me to pull it out. As I pulled the hair it reminded me of pulling a piece of dental floss out of a container to clean ur teeth!!! Thats how long it was!!!! DISGUSTING!!!! The manager said she was going to call the distributor...sooooo u make ur homemade greek italian big fat wedding dressing but u cant bread ur own chicken fingers? Im a tad confused...also by the manager calling the distributor how does that help me? IT DOSENT...but im sure you guys will be getting a little discount if the so called distributor does exist...so the waiter comes back with the bill and says the manager took off the chicken fingers...REALLY?! So my daughter eating the other half of a rapunzel length hair dosent constitute picking up the rest of the bill? The bill was 20.00 and the manager couldnt do anything about it? She said she tried calling the owner because she didnt have the authority to wipe off the bill...I stated wasnt he just here? The manager said he just left. Funny next time maybe they should tell the owner to stay in the back when hes "already left" because he walked right past us after we were blatently lied too..I will never be going back to this so called restaurant. I went a few years ago and on my car when leaving in the parking lot I had a roach on my vehicle. I should have remembered that when going back for more. I must say of all the J&R locations I’ve been to in all my years going, this place takes the cake.. apps are great, their garlic bread and amazing and have a nice crunch, mussel appetizer is actually pretty good w the sauce, the wings are crispy fresh, and the steaks.. I got the marinated 16oz ribeye Med rare and a porterhouse medium and they’re cooked just right.. juicy, not chewy, and you can break it down and swallow, w just enough fat.. that’s when you know it’s good.. and for the price.. can’t beat it.. and the best part.. the service was on top and very good!

Surprised on a Saturday night where I wasn’t expecting much honestly.. only thing is the soups are a little salty.. got a beef orzo and seafood bisque.. anyone from the restaurant reading this.. take a note but overall it’s a very good experience especially taking very picky in-law eaters.. good job J&R Medford!

Food and service still did not disappoint! Wings still just as good, mussels wife says it surpasses some of the nice Belgium mussel spots in LI, and steak is still very good! We ordered the kids ribs and wow what a good portion!! Garlic bread still a winner and order onions rings and it’s not bad either! Good job team!

UPDATE - 7/14/2023

Decided to come on a Friday night and bring my whole family and guests.. I have to say it was a little disappointing tonight.. maybe because it’s a busy Friday, or maybe the waiter that’s serving us wasn’t as warm and attentive as the others that served us before.. not sure.. the food came slow, my kids meals came last with everyone else’s entree when I asked him to bring theirs first because they’re hungry (usually that’s always the case w kids meals) and all the steaks ordered medium rare came out pretty well done.. and the waiter brought out the wrong steak and said we made that mistake and it wasn’t him.

Probably because it’s a busy Friday but it’s disappointing.. however the apps were still good.. but can’t say for the rest.. oh well. I’ll still give it another chance.. just don’t come on a...

ZERO STARS if I could.. I'm really not one to complain, I work as a server myself so I really try to keep an open mind when service isn't top notch. But this afternoon I ordered this lg salad to-go. I came across these small black chunks & actually ate it! Since I ate it, I know for a fact that happens to be DIRT in my salad. I called them & the day time manager (Eileen) answered. She is also the hostess during this time too. I called & asked to speak to the owner Steve. She said he wasn't there & asked if she could help me. I told her what I had experienced & she said "you can bring it back & I will give you a new salad." She also insured me that all of their salads are steriIely washed & prepared fresh (which clearly wasn't the case.) I told her I can't do that because I left work to pick it up so I can't just clock back out just to go back. She said well I don't know what to do if you don't come back. I wouldn't even want a new salad! I wanted the owner to be aware. She insured me that she would let him know. I have always loved J&R's.. all their locations but this just steered me away.
