I've been here a few times as they do make pretty good food. They have the standard Halal fare such as Gyro, Chicken, Fried Fish, etc over rice or salad which are very tasty dishes. My suggestion is to choose the Spicy Chicken for your protein as it is delicious and has a good kick of spice to it. My only complaint is that the white sauce (a Halal STAPLE) is too thin and watery. I usually have to order it on the side or it just makes the salad soggy and it all sinks to the bottom of the tray. If you like a bit of kick, order the #5 sauce. Yes, it's called number 5 and it is a sweet and spicy chipotle sauce. I am typically uninterested in anything chipotle but this sauce is quite delicious. The fried chicken is also pretty good, I do wish they made a spicy version of it as the standard coating is a bit on the bland side. Overall, I do enjoy the food though I would love to see the white sauce stepped up to compete with other local Halal haunts or, dare I say, compete with the NYC cart white sauce.

People working here are super nice and place is very clean. It is near the university which makes it a nice food option if you study or work there. Now let's get to the food...Pictured below is lamb over rice with white sauce..if you can find the white sauce! Rice were delicious...portion size is smaller than most “other” halal spots … the lamb was like cardboard...so maybe having proper white sauce would have made it taste better. but it didn't since white sauce was more like 1% milk with no flavor. They charge 4% transaction fee for using credit cards..which is annoying.

So found this great halal place near Stony Brook University, very clean and staff are really friendly. Look for Robin, he served us and was very generous with the amount of food. You can customize your plate with your mix of chicken and gyro and other options are available as well. They have a good menu to choose from. The gyro meat pieces were a bit too big for me and this was the first time I could not finish my halal food and the amount of food they give you is good for two meals, at least for me. Must try their No 5 sauce! Great place will definitely come back.

It was our first time trying this place (based on the good rating they hold), it was about 6.30pm, not a single customer inside but chicken was sitting in the food tray. We requested the order taker to fry fresh chicken, upon which he said it will be 15 mins wait which we agreed to. But the guy inside the kitchen named "Ghazi" didnt agree, upon insisting he came out and still did not accomodate fresh chicken drop, he said we will be served only whats ready in the bin. And he was constantly nodding his head while dealing with us which was very humiliating. We still purchased other items and had to get the chicken for my young kids (which was really stale as i suspected). Cant really comment how their food would taste fresh but the service...

The Halal Hut is a great place for quick, tasty, and healthy food.

The portions are massive; forget a chipotle burrito bowl. You’ve got a rectangular prism with the same width, a larger height, and probably 30% more volume.

Big shout out to the staff; Hassan was wonderful when I was getting a catering order, and Ruthney gave very helpful suggestions when I was trying to figure out what to put in my gyro bowl. If you’re not familiar with halal food, they have got you.

Do try this place out! protip if you’re driving: park at the LIRR lot on the loop so that you don’t have to exit campus...
