MACS (Macaroni and Cheese Shop) Appleton — Restaurant in Town of Buchanan

Originally, and due to not investigating the dining area (because of the advertised Mac and cheese being a delicious distraction), I had thought this a traditional restaurant environment with servers. Instead it is a deli style with walk-up to the cash register/menu. I like these, so not a disappointment in any regard, plus it's light and spacious and clean. The staff are warm, professional and also friendly. I had the Popeye's Mac and cheese, and going by the pictures on the menu I was confident it was going to be a great experience so dove right in with the 'Mac Daddy' size portion. This was too much for me to eat in one sitting, but they have take-away boxes easily and readily available.

This dish is remarkable, reminding me of the way my grandmother used to cook it (not overstating) all savory and creamy and cheesey, and perfectly crusty/crunchy on the top. Also on the top, a perfectly baked savory, crunchy piece of garlic bread perfectly complimenting.

Came in for a post work week treat. Love the ambiance, will return for the food. Gold padded backing on the benches reminds me of crisp toasted cheese, the tables and benches have a distressed top, but, unlike most places with distressed tables tops, theirs are kept very clean. The lighting is nice and low for a comfortable dining atmosphere and the music is classic rock played quietly enough for conversation, but loud enough to enjoy. The MAC, when it came out a few minutes after ordering, was perfect. I got the barbecue chicken mac in the "big daddy size" and absolutely loved it! Perfectly cooked macaroni mixed in the exactly right amount of warm melty cheese, topped with perfectly sauced, pulled chicken and onions. Two slices of crisp garlic bread to munch the last of the cheese sauce when you're done was the perfect topper. Will definitely return for more. I have been eating and ordering takeout from macs for a long time. Never had an issue until tonight. I ordered an original daddy size Mac. When I got home I realized they had put some sort of meat in it, so I called and asked if they could just remake it for me. I get to the store and give the cashier my name and my order and why I'm here (meanwhile there's an order on the counter). She tells me to wait by the shelf for the mobile orders. I waited there for 5-10 minutes before the cashier asked me what my name was. When I told her she gave me the cold order on the counter. I got home to find the Mac I received was noodles with (cold) melted shredded cheese on top. Very disappointed.

edit: I used to eat here all the time, but recently stopped going. Their cheese was changed and it's completely different now, and tastes horrible compared to how it used to be. and now it even costs more! Officially not eating here anymore. Really...
