'I am Ms. Afrika, and ain' no one goin' away hungry.' She was not kidding, we just ate in a fashion to make kings envious. I have had oxtail and jerk chicken from Puerto Rico to Manhattan, and no one does it like Ms. Afrika. I think her mama started simmering the oxtail when Ms. Afrika was born and passed it down in her will. The meat melted off of the bone, loaded with flavor and subtle spices. The sides; beans and rice, and Mac and cheese were delicious, with a delicate coconut flavor on the rice. My wife had jerk chicken and we split an order of garlic shrimp. The chicken was excellent, nicely darkened, just this side of blackened, loaded with up front jerk seasonings. The shrimp, however, was otherworldly. It was positively one of the best shrimp dishes I have had the pleasure to eat. There was nothing we ate even close to average, everything was excellent. Oh, the hot sauces, the sweet and mild is a 2 on my 'Tabasco as a 5' scale of heat, sweet and smooth. The Trinidad hot sauce was a 6 on the scale, fruity and flavorful, and decidedly potent. Ms. Afrika and her family serve up one hell of an authentic Jamaican meal. If you are anywhere in the area, definitely make a detour for her cooking. Yes, the restaurant is in the Celtic association building. Just walk in. Call ahead on Friday and Sunday evenings to avoid the Bingo rush. Omg, I am so stuffed, I feel like gluttony personified. I blame the delicious cooking of Bespoke Taste and See Caribbean restaurant. I will be back. Of note, the images are deceptive, the fork is big enough to second as a serving implement, so the portions appear WAY smaller than they are. This is definitely an 'I would travel out of my way to eat here' establishment. Thank...
Read moreI live in upstate New York in Saratoga County and I must say it’s very very far and in between that we have any choices of Caribbean, Spanish, Dominican or Jamaican food restaurants in our area that we can eat from. I drove 45 minutes one way to # 450 New Karner Road and route. 155 in Albany New York to this Caribbean Restaurant to pick up my dinner order of Brown Stewed Chicken , Rice and Peas, side orders of Homemade macaroni & cheese and a n order of mozzarella sticks ( 5 cheese sticks with marinara sauce for $ 5.00 ) . My total cost for all $ 25.00 ( Very Reasonable Value ) I ate cheese sticks on the drive home. My dinner was very tasty and delicious. I got 2 meals off of rice and peas with plantains. The chicken very tasty. The gravy for my brown stewed chicken was a thin gravy. I must say my first time having a thin gravy over my rice and peas. I prefer a thick gravy from fresh tomatoes that used for the sauce with fresh vegetables. I definitely recommend this restaurant to eat at. There’s lots of love that goes into all of Mrs. Africa dishes. She’s very talented with her food dishes. Their Very tasty! I will...
Read moreI had really been craving some delicious curry chicken (or goat). I chose this restaurant due to the excellent reviews. I suppose I went on the wrong day (Sunday afternoon). I politely greeted the gentleman, who was not pleasant or welcoming. He initially said that he did not have the curry chicken ready (I was prepared to order the goat). He also told me right away that he didn't have rice & peas and handed me a "to go" menu (although I hadn't even asked for either one). Once he saw that I was determined to order, he said he had the chicken. After waiting too long for my order, it was finally ready and I was told there was NO chicken on the bone.. I would have definitely ordered something else. I never had curry cutlets and never want it again. The cabbage was nasty and the plantains were burned. Weird, disappointing experience. PROS: Mac & cheese was good and a nice lady came in as I was waiting. She was very polite and...
