Carvel — Restaurant in Town of East Fishkill

Great product, not so much with customer service. I've gonne there at times and felt comfortable and in good hands. Like they wanted and appreciated my business. Other times ive felt disregarded or even disdain towards me. For example, I we.t in to pick a order up for door dash, and ordered something for myself while I waited. Simple shake with whip cream. I didnt get the whip cream, but didnt bother bringing it up, I'm not picky. But when I went to pay, the woman behind the counter reach over and pressed the skip button for the tip part. Which was weird. Never had an employee not want a tip. I said, "I was going to tip". To which she said "its ok " in a kinda rude and dismissive way. And the others laughed. Maybe I read it wrong. But I didn't feel comfortable in that situation. And it wasn't the first time. However, I've gone in there and a gentleman behind the counter treated me with the utmost respect. And I appreciated it. The staff was friendly. Having not been here in years and hearing great things about the new ownership, I was excited to give Carvel a try again. The ice cream had old dried out looking ice cream put on top of the newer ice cream, making it quite unappealing as if it had been there for a month. It looked crusty and hard. There was also a random smashed cone stuck in one of the flavors on the lower section. Most upsetting, the entire inside of the ice cream display case was incredibly dirty. All around the metal inside and corners looked like they hadn’t ever been cleaned —dried out ice cream and who knows what else stuck to the display case. The same crust was built up around the edges of the freezers where the cakes are stored. It made me not want the fresh ice cream or anything at all. We were all bummed that it was not sanitary. This place has improved significantly since our last time here in the Spring. They have given the paint a facelift and cleaned up the general aesthetics. I do think more seating would be helpful (which is why I gave 4, not 5 stars. We ordered two regular ice creams and I had the joy of having the dairy free Pina Colada sorbet. It was delicious and refreshing- I do wish I was a little colder and less melted (again why I gave 4 instead of 5 stars). My oldest child and I are dairy free due to lactose intolerance and there are almost no ice cream shops that offer such options.
