We absolutely love Bennett’s Seafood. It’s one of our must-stop places whenever we’re in town — everything is always fresh and delicious. We have never had any issues, until this last visit.
During our most recent trip, we stopped by twice in one week because we enjoy it that much. On our second visit, we purchased a clam pie and some fresh-caught Black Sea bass. The woman behind the counter emphasized that the fish was fresh and should be eaten that day, which we appreciated since we’re staying in a hotel with a kitchen. She was also very clear about how to cook the clam pie, which was helpful.
However, she said absolutely nothing about the fish having bones — and when it came time to cook and eat it, we were horrified to find it full of small, sharp bones. It was inedible. We had to pick through each bite with our hands just to make sure we weren’t going to swallow something dangerous. In the end, we ended up throwing the fish away, which was disappointing and wasteful.
I assumed, like with most fresh seafood markets, the fillets would be cleaned and deboned — or at the very least, we’d be given a heads-up. A simple “Just a heads-up, there may still be bones in there, we try or best” or a “we don’t debone any filets here, take that into consideration when making your choice” would have gone a long way. It felt like a safety issue more than anything.
Considering how heavy tourism is here, and many tourists don’t have access to a full kitchen of tools, it seems like something Bennetts should tell customers.
We still love this place and will probably return, but next time we’ll be asking more questions — and we hope the staff considers being more proactive in letting customers know when fish may still...
Read moreI ordered their lobster pizza. Which is first come first serve. Because they sell out pretty quick and sometimes they don't have it for days. But I was resilient and kept in touch with the owners and made sure to set aside one for me. These aren't mass produced. A local baker makes the crust and delivers the crust etc and the owners add the mostly lobster claws to it the vacuum seal and freeze it. Most their food you have to bring home and eat it. They have smoked fish dip which was good and lobster rolls they make ready to eat. two lobster rolls for 38 dollars and a bag of chips is the best deal out there. The fish dip is good as well as the dessert they offer I got key lime and some type of mousse cake I'm waiting to heat up the lobster money pizza thing. I gave it 4 stars because its cash only which probably allows them to offer reasonable prices. While maximizing their profits and not much over head being i only saw two people working there they like keep things simple other than that 5 stars will update to 5 after I had the...
Read moreThe lobster roll, which was a pretty good deal at 2 for 40 bucks was good. However, the woman running the place was rude beyond belief. The moment we rolled up, she began to yell at us because it took a moment to get our cash together and she “needed the parking.” I should have left right then. She then criticized me for leaving my dog in the car for 5 minutes even though it was 72 degrees out, he had water, and all the windows were open. She was pleasant for 2 seconds while I paid for lobster rolls. Then she yelled at my wife who had just pulled out of the parking because she was waiting for me just in front of her home/restaurant. Then she continued to hassle me as I buckled my 4 year old into the car because I was taking too long. All this lady sees is dollar signs, after you have paid her you are a nuisance and she is cruel. I couldn’t even enjoy the food. Don’t make the mistake I did and give this...
