EDIT AFTER BUSINESS’ RESPONSE I think the reply from beach plum and their “apology” proves the lack of empathy. My reservation was moved only after I asked SEVERAL times while holding back tears if there was anything they could do and they finally relented and moved the booking. Never once showing empathy. After this next trip we will be looking elsewhere in Montauk.
Positives first: the rooms we’ve gotten in the past have always been decent. Nothing special and some are better than others. Simple efficiency apartments that have the basics needed. There’s private terraces with ocean views. The location is great. It’s right across the beach and close to the main strip.
Now the bad: I hope you never have a family emergency and need to cancel after the 30 days prior to arrival. You will be met with such a lack of humanity. I called and spoke with Viviana and was treated so coldly. Our booking is next week and i was told they are a business and like most business they have a policy. I’m well aware of businesses and their policies, but you know what else is important to a business? Customer service. We have a parent entering hospice and spending a few days away is not possible. At the end I was told “good luck.” They were able to change my booking to a future date which is the only reason I’m not giving one star. It’s more than just the inflexibility of their policy during this difficult time, but it’s the attitude I received on the phone that was disgraceful. My husband and I have visited for several years and wanted this to be a yearly family trip with the kids. And now for the first time we’re not looking forward to our stay and will be looking elsewhere in montauk for our...
Read moreThe staff stole my favorite necklace, but other than that the view of the ocean was lovely.
If you are interested in further clarification, here you go: I realized an hour after checking out that I forgot my necklace in the room. The previous night, I set the necklace down on the nightstand. Laying in bed and ready to go to sleep, I slid my book on to the the nightstand, which caused the necklace to fall off of the nightstand. It was a chunky gold chain, and I remember the jangling thud it made when it hit the ground. I did not pick it up right away, stupidly assuming I would remember it in the morning. When this memory flooded back to me the next day, I rushed back to the Beach Plum. I told the receptionist my predicament and she walkie-talkie'd the cleaning team to ask if they found a necklace. Nothing. She then allowed me to go to the room and check myself, since the incoming guests had not yet arrived. I looked everywhere. No necklace. I returned to the receptionist, asking her if she made sure she asked all of the cleaning people just in case. She said " trust me, they are not interested in anyone's jewelry." One should also note that it was a heavy, chunky chain that could not have been vacuumed up. It's been a couple weeks now since my stay and my necklace has not materialized anywhere. I feel an obligation to let you know that while the view is beautiful at the Beach Plum, the staff is not...
Read moreStayed in Unit 18 mid-week in off-season. On Montauk Hwy across the street from beach. 10-minute walk to grocery store and 15 minute walk into downtown. Clean, perfectly nice place with great view of ocean, cushioned chaise lounges on balcony. Nice quiet yard with trees, lawn, picnic tables and grills behind the building if you want a break from the ocean. Clean, large pool open 9am-6pm. Unfortunately, pool is between the parking lot and the street, but it was lovely otherwise, with chairs and 4 large umbrellas. Really liked the outdoor changing room and shower. Very nice for getting the salt and sand off before heading back to the room.||||What could have made this place better: ||Thicker walls. It's very easy to hear through them. ||Firmer bed. It was way too soft. Very little support.||Beach chairs, even if they were just available for rent would have made this a super-duper car-free vacation!||Decent cookware. Pots were all nonstick with the coating severely scratched up, which is terrible for your health. Thankfully there was a skillet in decent shape that we used. ||No salt/pepper or coffee was provided. That would have been...
