I’m writing this review with the intent to help potential guests make an informed decision. I’ve stayed at many high-end properties around the world and I can confidently say this was the most overpriced experience I’ve ever had.
Price I paid $3,400 for two nights, which is by far the highest nightly rate I’ve ever paid, and unfortunately, it didn’t come close to justifying the price. Check in is at 4pm and checkout at 11am, for the funny anecdote, i was offered a couple of days before we get there the possiblity to pay $500+ to have access to a 2pm check in.
Property Type Despite its marketing, this is not a hotel it’s a motel with direct beach access. There are none of the amenities, service levels, or standards you’d expect from a luxury or even mid-tier hotel.
Service Service was inconsistent and largely unprofessional. The seasonal staff, mostly university students, were friendly but clearly untrained and unprepared for hospitality work. The older, permanent staff were rude and unhelpful, often acting as though any request was an inconvenience. There was no sense of hospitality or guest care typically expected at even a basic resort.
Location The location is convenient, situated at the entrance of Montauk with direct access to a public beach. However, beach access is not exclusive—anyone can walk onto it, so staying here doesn't offer any real location advantage over other options nearby.
Room We stayed in a two-bedroom unit, but it’s really a one-bedroom with a sliding door separating the second bed, offering little privacy. The private outdoor seating area was dirty and uninviting, so we never used it (it was also semi private as anyone in the hotel could access it) Cleanliness was poor, we found hair in the bathroom and bed upon arrival, and there were ants all over the kitchen throughout our stay.
Beach Experience The beach setup was minimal. No dedicated hotel lifeguard. Only two attendants, offering basic seating and umbrellas. You can order food and drinks online, but delivery carries a $12+ fee, not including tip. The food was low quality (frozen pizza, cold sandwiches), yet shockingly overpriced —we spent $120 for two small pizzas (6 inch) and two drinks once delivery, taxes, and tips were included.
Cleanliness & Hygiene The lack of professional housekeeping staff was evident. The room was dirty upon arrival, with visible stains, hair in the bathroom, and ants throughout the kitchen. Maintenance and cleanliness standards were far below acceptable levels for any accommodation—let alone one charging luxury prices.
Conclusion This was, without exaggeration, the most overpriced and underwhelming stat I’ve ever experienced. The property is nothing more than a dressed-up motel capitalizing on its proximity to the beach—which, again, is public and easily accessible from anywhere in Montauk. The food and beverage experience is a borderline scam, and overall, it feels like a business focused entirely on extracting value from guests rather than providing it.
I strongly urge potential guests to look elsewhere—there are better and more honest options in Montauk that won’t leave you feeling taken...
Read moreHero Beach Club is like holding up a mirror to what's gone wrong with Montauk the last 10 years or so. This is our second time staying at Hero Beach Club (first time in 2017, their opening summer), and the property has not aged well. It's time to re-invest some money back in - and more than slapping on a coat of paint. Montauk used to be a relatively affordable trip for families, but now exists as an unapologetic money grab. HBC is Montauk in a nutshell - outrageously expensive for what it offers. ||THE GOOD|To their credit, the room was clean on arrival. Kudos to their cleaning staff. HBC partners with fitness instructors and others to provide activities on the lawn. Beach staff were helpful. Outdoor common areas are nice, and most everyone working there was kind in their interactions with us.||THE BAD|The property photographs well on their website, but look at anything up close, and the veneer falls apart. HBC has sacrificed functionality for the 'gram. No proper seating options other than some heavy stools scattered about. No counter space for toiletries in the bathrooms - the sinks are like tall skinny flower pots with a 1-2" ledge. No towel racks other than those standing ladder things (unsecured to the wall). Bathrooms had no door locks, one of the bathrooms when closed blocks the bedroom door from being open.||50/50 chance on whether towels were ever available by the pool. Food marketed as being available by the pool was absurdly expensive ($10 for a slice of less-than-mid pizza, $18 for a tiny pan kid's size pizza), if available at all. Sandwiches were never in stock. ||THE UGLY |The room is $2500 per night, and that is INFURIATING for what you get. The rooms are in dire need of serious maintenance. Mold by the patio door, shower door seals are broken and turned into spear-like edges. Barn door to separate bedroom was half off the track and was missing the lower guide so could swing wildly below. Shelves in the bathroom were improperly secured and about to pull themselves out of the wall. Bathroom grout was absolutely disgusting - many tiles were loose and "crunchy" as we walked across them - the entire subfloor needs to be re-done. Water was turned off for about an hour to the building with no notice - you simply can't do that. I get that work needs to be done, but some effort needs to be made to guests that something as critical as water is going to be off for a period of time in the middle of the day. ||||||Service - most everyone quite friendly and accommodating, but there's not much anyone can do other than apologize when things run out. 50/50 on whether pool towels were made available at all. HBC advertises a lunch menu by the pool ($18 for a simple kid's sized pizza!), but the vast majority of the items were never in stock the entire weekend. ||Activities - probably the shining spot here. HBC has made a few...
Read moreJust got back from amazing 3 night stay at Hero beach club. It was the most perfect getaway from the city that I ever had. We arrived on Sunday around noon our room wasn’t ready but front desk was super nice and showed us around. We changed in swimwear and went straight in the beach which is across from hotel, on the beach they had bead bags/umbrellas and towels. We spend 5 amazing hrs by the ocean, and the location of the hotel is so perfect it feels like it has a private beach( just couple other people from Hero) it felt like paradise and I couldn’t believe it’s so close to nyc. After the beach we went to our room and wow. It was all I could dream about. We had terrace with ocean view and of course you could hear the waves which made us so special. The room we stayed had one king bed that was very comfortable and queen with divider which would be perfect for 2+ ppl also. Everything was very modern and the room had everything needed(fridge, lots of complimentary skincare/ hairdryer) . Bathrooms are also super comfortable and felt like a luxury resort. In the evening we took bikes from hotel and went to the town that is super close by walking or biking. Town is very cute and has everything LI has to offer. Sleeping with waves was magical. Next day was windy for the beach but they had an amazing pool that I spent all day working on my tan) room service/front desk are super nice. The place is clean and comfortable. Location is amazing, we didn’t have car and we didn’t need it at all. In the morning they did coffee and pastries at the lobby that was delicious, each evening we spent by fire pits with wine. I just got back but already dreaming about next visit at Hero. I have been in other part of Hamptons but montauk stole my heart and hero beach club was a bit part of it. They literary have everything you need!
Update 2025 Have been coming to Hero Beach club since MDW 2023 and still in Love with this magical place. The location on the beach that you can’t beat, amazing pool, stuff and rooms. It became a truly special escape from city in summer. Thank you Hero for so many...
