To cut to the chase, I had a fantastic chicken curry roti at Doubles, the new casual food stop that’s opened in Amagansett square where Hampton Chutney used to be. For the uninitiated, roti are like the Indian version of burritos, and Doubles does a fantastic one. They don’t make for very Instagram-able content, but trust me when I say the curry chicken one was full of flavor! The staff are also very friendly and welcoming.

The reason I can’t give Doubles five stars really comes down to price. The roti was a perfect portion size, but at $18 you can’t help but feel it’s disproportionately priced for what is really a casual bite-type place. While I will certainly go back, it won’t be as often as I might drop by Hampton Chutney or Goldberg’s, for instance, given the value gap.

Doubles could also benefit from some photos somewhere—even online— of their food options, though this might just be due to how young the shop is. Multiple people end up having to ask questions about the bare bones menu on the board like what are rotis?; what are mahi mahi cutters?; what’s in the Freddie bowl? And it wastes time...

Not traditional style doubles at all but still a cute spot to check out. If you are missing home as a Caribbean person, just the sight/smell of this place could make you feel good after realizing you are so far out on the island of LI. Nothing like it nearby that I know of so I’m happy they are keeping the West Indian vibe alive here. Staff we encountered weren’t the most knowledgeable about the culture or too friendly but the place seems to run itself regardless. Would have been nice to have a convo with someone who was willing tell us about the origins of its rare and bold presence in Amagansett. Flavors are familiar I would say. I’m sure it’s because they serve a certain demographic locally, including tourists stopping in as well, but this is not to be mistaken for what we know to be real doubles. Not bad. Cool...

First I want to make a point of saying that this is a great place to eat. I had a chicken over salad and the chicken was marinated perfectly. The spices and flavor were complex. The dressing on the salad was perfectly complimentary. What a treat to eat here.

Every dish I have had here since is amazing. Take the time. Enjoy the food. Try it.

Doubles? I suggest a name change. Or more effort to explain its origin.

The name suggests large portions? Or maybe a place to go after tennis. I’m sorry. I just didn’t get the name until after I did the research.

Perhaps….

Doubles - Trinidadian Flare or Doubles - Trinidadian Fare

But again…. Food is so tasty. Try it. You won’t regret it. I wish all restaurants made food this perfectly. It was one of the best meals I’ve had this year. I’m going back there now to enjoy...

This review only has to do with the doubles. I was looking for a place to eat, as I was leaving Montauk and saw the restaurant doubles. The reason I had to stop in here is that I have a house in Trinidad and could not believe there were doubles (Trinidadian street food) at the end of Long Island. I must say, I was skeptical, but the doubles was really excellent. There was flavored bara which also had a great crisp to it. The Chana was really tasty and the sauces really great. If you have never had Trinidadian food, let alone Trinidadian street food, you really should try this !
