Martine's Fine Bake Shoppe — Restaurant in Town of Eastchester

This was my second visit to this location. I was excited to return since I had a great experience the first time, but unfortunately this visit was very disappointing.

When I picked up my order, the bag was double-knotted, so I didn’t open it to check on the spot. Once I got home, I realized I had been charged for the wrong item, received the wrong item, and was also missing something I had ordered. I immediately called and spoke to a staff member, who told me they would have the missing items waiting for me.

When I arrived and asked for the staff member, I waited for quite some time before the manager, Brenda, came out. Instead of apologizing for the mix-up, she was very rude and dismissive. She told me I should “double-check everything before I call” and insisted that the cameras showed the item was included. She also demanded that I return the incorrect cookie I had been given before she would hand me the correct items.

At no point did she apologize or take responsibility for the error. She simply gave me the replacement items and walked away. The entire interaction was handled unprofessionally and left me feeling disrespected.

Mistakes happen, but the lack of courtesy and accountability from the manager was unacceptable. A sincere apology and a more respectful approach would have gone a long way in keeping me as a happy,...

I have been frequenting Martine’s for as long as I have been in Scarsdale. A few days ago I felt compelled to write to them because they had a sign in a case that read Israeli Rugelach. I explained to them that Rugelach is Polish. It is from Poland. I also said that given the fact that Israel is committing genocide and has murdered tens of thousands of children, it isn’t a good thing to advertise Israel anything in their shops. I received a response from the company that I am “Jew hater” and I am “anti-Semitic”. That was the response. I am a human being that isn’t a sociopath and who has empathy and feels that murdering children is wrong. Palestinians are Semites so I don’t see how I am anti-Semitic and I have walked in multiple anti-genocide marches with rabbis and Jewish people, hand in hand, in love and kindness. During my recent visit to the bakery to purchase a cake, I encountered troubling discriminatory behavior from one of the staff members. The elderly lady who was preparing my cake exhibited racist tendencies toward me, a customer from a visible minority background.

Despite having just paid for my purchase at another cashier only a minute before, the elderly lady handing me the cake displayed a profound lack of trust in me. Even after I presented my paid receipt, she meticulously scrutinized the date and time printed on it. This made me feel as though she suspected me of attempting to scam them for a cake, an experience that was both humiliating and frustrating.

Overall, this experience left me deeply disappointed and embarrassed. The discriminatory attitude and lack of trust exhibited by the staff member tarnished what should have been a straightforward transaction. Unfortunately, I cannot see myself returning to this bakery...
