I had the opportunity to eat here twice in the same evening and was very impressed with each seating. I started off with their pizza, regular grandma and the fig prosciutto and was blown away. NOT BLAND! Exceptional crust, perfect mixture of cheese to sauce. The crust was almost as good as the slice. You must try the fig slice, the sweet and salty mixed with a crunch are heaven in your mouth. Next was the frittes with a sunnyside egg and bacon sprinkles. Wow! The egg was cooked spot on and the fries were scrumptious in a medium size sercing.
Impressive draft and bottle selection with KCBC IPA, Bronx No Resolutions, Allagash white & a house pilsner. Salute to the beer manager with varied styles and current (KCBC was a NE IPA). My wife had a Babe rose from a can, then moved on to the Negroni and Old Fashioned from their own aging barrels at the end of the bar. Large red and white wine selection too.
Small quaint olace that goes left to right in two rooms rather than deep into the building. Dozen or so 2 tops along the windows facing the street and 7 or so spots at the bar. Unisex bathroom with fresh towels instead of paper towel machine (reducing carbon footprint one hand wash at a time)
After picking up my daughter around the corner, I returned shortly thereafter to have dinner. Truffle carbonara with sautéed mushrooms on rotini pasta made my eyes roll back and loud pleasure groan. My wife had spaghetti and their famous meatballs. My wife is a very picky eater and rarely finishing her meal, except today. The marina with fresh basel was NOT BLAND AT ALL. In fact, this was the first time she did not use any salt or extra parmesean because the food was cooked perfectly. For dessert, I recommend the zeppoles with espresso marscepone to blast you off into food nirvana. Yes, the dessert was that good.
Kristen the bartender was wonderful chatting us up, keeping my daughter involved along with detailing the evolution of the restaurant. A true master of her craft making Old Fashions and processing endless on line take out orders.
The neighborhood loves the place and the food. Will go back for a date night and...
Read moreCame here on a Saturday. It’s a meticulously designed Italian restaurant with charming vintage touches—the rustic bronze tin ceiling tiles, exposed brick walls, and elegant pendant lighting all add to a warm, stylish atmosphere.
That said, the food was just average and felt a bit overpriced for what we got (around $100 for one appetizer, one salad, and one pizza). To be fair, we might’ve just ordered the wrong things.
We started with the special garlic “not,” a large, knotted bread served golden and blistered, dusted with parmesan and flecks of thyme. It looked impressive, but it was a little too oily for our taste. The farmhouse salad was colorful, with lots of components—chicory greens, pickled red onions, roquefort blue cheese, cucumber, tomato confit—but the flavors didn’t quite come together. You end up tasting each element separately, mostly the bitterness and salt.
The upside-down Sicilian pizza was a thick, square pie with a rich tomato sauce layered over mozzarella. It wasn’t bad, but we just personally prefer the lighter, crispier Neapolitan style.
Still, this could be a great spot for a casual Friday night hang with friends or family. Just make sure to find the dishes that really shine...
Read moreGreat food and ambiance. Too bad the waitress we got was patronizing. We arrived at 845pm about an hour before closing time. As soon as we got there we couldn't get the waitress attention but the bus boy quickly seated us and set us up. She finally comes over, there are only 2 of us (mind you there are only 3 other tables seated) and we order. She forgets our drinks and we kindly remind her no big deal. Food arrives; pasta is perfectly Al dente and delicious. We finish up and ask for dessert and another beverage and she states she can't serve us anything else because it's 10pm and they're officially closed; all the while a family of 6 had just arrived and had ordered in the last 10 minutes. Taken aback and honestly not wanting to cause a argument we say okay pay and properly tip and go on our way. As I left I just felt like my meal was ruined. Not being able to fully enjoy my meal, enjoy some dessert (and man did that zeppole sounds good) was truly disheartening. I would have loved to come back again, too bad she was the only waitress and a...
