EL AGAVE MEXICAN GRILL & CANTINA — Restaurant in Town of Grand Chute

Hello everyone ! We just ate here for the first time. My first impression was the outside. All the white fence around the building is broken and looks bad. But the building itself looks nice. Inside it's very open, tall ceilings, cozy and clean. Nice colors and comfortable seating. Our waiter we polite, nice smile and got our order correct so that's a plus. Large menu and lots to choose from. My boyfriend ordered the XL Burrito and I ordered the (steak) Street burrito, my son ordered a cheese burger. The chips and salsa was good. The food was (ok) at best. I'm Mexican, come from Milwaukee and have tried Mexican food all over wisconsin. It was by far (( not ))) the best I've tried. Rice was flavorless, my son took a few bites of his burger and said he didn't want it anymore. The cheese in my burrito wasn't even melted and there was way too much lettuce and it took away from everything else. The steak was good as well as the cheese sauce topping. My bf didn't like his food either and we didn't take a box for his left overs. I don't think we will be back. We would rather eat at Maya Riveria in fond du lac, or Aromas Mexican Grill in Ripon. I've driven my el agave numerous times and always wanted to try it, so we gave it a shot the other night. I'm not really sure what was going on with the service because others have left such positive reviews, but everything took a really long time. By the time the server first came over, we'd been there a while, so we ordered drinks, an app, and our entrees. It took a pretty significant amount of time to get our drinks, someone actually came over to ask if we had ordered drinks yet and we let them know we had, but it still took awhile after that to receive them. By the time our entrees came out, we still had not received our app, and we let the runner know. He said he would be right back with it, and we never saw him again. We wanted to order another drink but no one came to our table until we were finished with our meal. Our server hadn't actually stopped by our table from the time we ordered until we were finished with our meal. It very well could have been a one off, but it was not busy when we arrived, and it was the first time I'd ever been to that restaurant. The service didn't really inspire...

Met friends there on Cinco de Mayo. Just wanted to say how a waiter not in the mood to do his job can affect an evening. Ours expressed displeasure at not ordering at a time he deemed appropriate. The four of us hadn’t seen each other in a while and were chatting and hadn’t gotten to the rather robust menu offerings. We were enjoying our drinks and each other’s company but weren’t ready to submit a food order. This apparently miffed our waiter. His demeanor became rude; he even rolled his eyes at us. I looked him square in the eye before ordering and asked him if he was annoyed. “I have other tables to wait on,” was his reply. Well, we weren’t keeping him from doing his job, but safe to say we won’t be returning. The establishment did try to make the evening fun with free shots of tequila, some giveaway items, etc., but our night out was tainted by memorably bad table service. Perhaps just our bad luck to get the young gentleman we did....
