So, I have waited a few days to meditate on how to handle this. I have decided that full and open honesty is the best policy and it should be done through the ancient art of story telling.
So there I was, riding in a Subaru after a few days of hiking and camping in the mountains. Looking forward to a meal I didn't cook myself. I see this cozy looking spot and excitedly decide to go there. The beer selection was amazing and the women behind the counter had the sort of accent that made me think 'oh, this is going to be good'. I ordered two breakfast sandwiches; two eggs sunny side up, bacon, Swiss cheese on bagels toasted. In addition I ordered a large turkey sub with lettuce, tomato, oil and vinegar and banana peppers. Oh yeah, And a coffee.
The breakfast sandwiches come out I hurriedly sit at the outside picnic table to eat. I open the first sandwich and it looks fine. I bite into it to find a cold untoasted bagel with a single egg scrambled and over cooked with yellow American cheese semi melted and a piece of bacon maybe MAYBE MAYBE 1" LONG. I'm shook but think, hey we all make mistakes. The second sandwich (drum roll please) holy bad service Batman it's on a cold English muffin also one tiny piece of bacon, also with American cheese also with a single scrambled egg cooked to the consistency of rubber..... I am Sharief's hangry rage.
I go back inside to see her just starting the sub and decided to not say anything, I found my Zen in the woods and I'm not going to lose it now. I refill my coffee and wait patiently. The sub comes out and I decide to spare myself and not look at it, instead I just say thank you and go to leave when she informs me that I should pay for a full new coffee since I topped mine off while waiting...... I stare. She stares. I stare. She stares. She starts to say it again and I just say 'no, sorry, same coffee. Bye.'
We laugh as we drive away at the terrible breakfast bad enough to make me miss the freeze dried MRE's we have been eating in the woods. But the laughs only took us as far as Watertown. For by then I had started to eat the sub. Everything I ordered was there, in proper proportions and I relax. I am Sharief's sense of calm. No. NO. NO NO NO NO NO. Wait. I am Sharief's bubbling guts. I am Sharief's volcanic guts erupting without mercy. Oh God, oh god, there are so few stops on 81 South. Please Jesus give me the strength. I'm clenching and pinching. I'm trying to hide from my friends the amoebic dysentery that I have apparently contacted.
I blew my guts out for 24 hours. I prayed to Gods I don't believe in and eventually drank about 15 doses of Pepto and passed out.

Read moreI went into this place with absolutely no expectations. I seriously just wanted a cup of coffee before heading back to Buffalo. 25 minutes later I walked out with lunch, a box of the best local beer, and the most delicious green mountain coffee. The beer selection at this place is absolutely impeccable, lunch was fantastic, and the owner was so friendly and hospitable. When I commented on the beer selection he said his wife meets with local microbreweries every week and is constantly updating the inventory. He even gestured to an array of post-it notes on the wall with customer requests and said we try to accommodate every single customer's wish. This will be a guaranteed stop for me every time I return to the Adirondacks from this...
Read moreI used to come to this market every time I passed through Saranac Lake headed to work. And today I stopped as usual to get a snack and water but before I could even step out of my vehicle some crazy man started harassing me, and he kept saying “you no park here” I double checked to see if it was handicapped or restricted parking and it wasn’t. And then he tried to stand in front of my car so even though I just told him I’d be a second and needed a snack but he wouldn’t listen and he basically just chased me away. So I went to Stewart’s instead. I’ll never come back I was really weirded out and offended. I don’t even know if the man worked here or was just creeping on young women but I’m definitely never giving my business to this...
