Valbrook Diner — Restaurant in Town of Hempstead

I just had the worst experience ever with the manager “if that’s what you want to call him” Tommy. I ordered a simple chicken fingers and mash potatoes. Once getting the dish I tasted the mash and it was clearly instant and the chicken fingers were hard. I called the server over and when I asked if they were instant he said yes they were - so I told him I didn’t want it and he went over to get “Tommy” he came over a nasty disposition- when I told him about the food he said the mash was fresh and I told him they were not and of course he kept insisting they were then looked at the chicken and said that I needed to tell him before I ate half of it, mind you I ate half of one and called over the server. He proceeded to walk away and said every time you come in here there’s a problem. I told him I had never seen him before and had not been there in the evening - I have for breakfast but I’d never seen him nor have I complained about breakfast. I can’t believe how nasty and rude he was. Careless-whatever - nonchalant kind of attitude. I just moved into the neighborhood and thought I found a good diner but I was wrong. As I was paying I told him it’s a shame how nasty and rude he was and his response was “thank you and laughed” Gordon Ramsey needs to pay them a visit and show them how easy it is to make real mash potatoes and...

We have been going to the Valbrook for years, wanted to write a letter or send an e-mail instead of write a review, however this was the most available option. Three stars because we used to love it. This visit wasn't even a one. There was no beauty in the meal or the server.

We were there Friday afternoon 9/24/21, sat near the window, up front, our waitress (server) was rude, she threw our plate of condiments on the table in such a rush, we both looked her way, then she was gone. No apology or even glance our way. We were shocked! Was she angry or she just didn't like the way we looked! We both ordered breakfast. My Spinach and Feta cheese egg-white Omelet was awful, not at all as I remembered from the past when the food was a delight! New chef? The hash brows were mashed potatoes, burnt on both sides. Terrible meal. My husband faired no better, though he had a different entre. Asked for toast without butter, got toast with butter. The waitress when she finally came over near the end of the meal, brought toast without butter. An older gentleman came over, he was nice, friendly and what a server should be, but he didn't belong to us. Needless-to-say, it'll be awhile before we return. We tipped, but not accordingly. Amazing staff, amazing food, very clean restrooms and affordable prices! All the waiters and the lady at the front desk were all amazing! They would come around refilling our drinks and would come check up on our table to see how our meal was going! I would highly recommend the mozzarella sticks and I can’t get over the pickles that they serve before the meal! Those pickles are highly addictive for the kids and I! The kids got pancakes, scrambled eggs and French fries while I got the grilled cheese! The staff listens to any specifications that you would have for your order and they always do it right such as how well you Want your bread toasted and how lightly you would like fries to be fried! The kids keep asking To go back and they love it here! I also love the overall environment and energy. You can tell that the staff genuinely love it there and are treated like family, that’s the entire vibe you get when you see the way everyone there is working together and always smiling.
