We drove by a saw this place in North Valley Stream on Merrick Blvd It happen to catch our attention,🤔 it's Spanish food from Central America plenty of different dishes. 🇭🇳🇺🇸🇸🇻 can't really see the server , to many people working in that area, limited seating but wouldn't recommend to stay.
I order regular Pork chops with white rice and mash beans looks good (regular plate to go). Then I order 2 Baleadas regular ( which was pretty much awful we ate Baleadas before and this one was semi raw and wet )😱🥴, and the Soup of Mondogo, or stripe soup with tortillas was very good surprisingly 👍☺️😘😘 ( you have to make sure you asked what they come with) also we didn't buy any drinks, but do asked the prices, some of the price are Not in the menu,😱 So do make sure to ask, so that way you don't get over charge or surprise. The servers where semi friendly look like they were in a rush and the cashier definitely seems like she had some issues, but either way we wanted to try it out.
Over a I spent $36🤔😱😱 I believe it was (Over Price) Not quite as I expected for basic food, we have bought the same food before with better quality and drinks included for almost that price in other places.
Either way it's food and they do have some...
Read moreordered from here a few weeks ago, the beef stew was tasty but the meat was dry and overcooked, there was one small piece of carrot & potatoe, waaaaayyyy too much rice and beans, they didnt include the sweet plantains either. plus i asked for extra gravy on the meal, they didnt do as i asked. and they put the salad on top of the whole meal, which is disgusting! the tamale had absolutely no flavor at all, very bland, i threw it out after one bite. the cafe that i ordered was horrible, it was overly sugared and had barely any milk. i wanted to give them a 2nd chance so i ordered the same beef stew today; well that was a giant disappointment again. i asked for very little beans, they gave me a ton, i asked for extra gravy on the meal, there was barely any, i asked for NO SALAD, they put a bunch of salad on top of the meal, again far too much rice, one piece of potatoe in the stew, no other vegetables. also told them to make sure they plantains were included this time, THEY WERENT! instead they gave me 2 tasteless corncakes, i tried a little piece of it and threw the rest of them away. i ordered a beef taco, there was nothing on it but meat and it was overcooked! this will be the last time they get my money! dont...
Read moreI've been a patron of this deli on and off for 7 or 8 years. It has gone through many iterations through those years. Sometimes the food has been great; sometimes average, but the atmosphere has mostly been kind of dark and uninviting for the non-Latino. The prime clientele of La Familia are the working class Latinos from the many work and repair shops that surround the area. Those folks speak Spanish and thus the ladies that serve them speak Spanish as well, so if that makes you uncomfortable I don't know what to say.
As for the atmosphere, I visited La Famila Deli last Friday after about a year of not visiting and the decor has changed. There is more space to move around and there is more lighting. It seems for inviting and spacious.
The food the morning of my visit was delicious. Especially, the baleadas! IMHO one of the best baleadas I have tasted on Long Island. I also had a taco de birria and it was juicy and fresh. The ladies there were warm and flirty (as are most great Spanish delis) as is the Hispanic way.
I will definitely go out of my way more often for some great and quick Hispanic food at La Familia...
