We have been customers of this Cracker Barrel since its opening. We love the store and there's a nice selection on the menu in the restaurant that meets everyone's interests. We walked into the store and were welcomed by what I thought was the manager. We went over to the hostess and she seated us right away and told us someone would be right over to get our drinks and take our order. At this point our visit went down hill. I went out to use the restroom (I was probably gone 5 minutes or more) and when I returned to our table my husband said no one had been over. We waited another 5 minutes watching waitresses come and go delivering meals or refilling drinks. We both tried to get the attention of the waitresses just to touch base with one of them and they totally ignored us. At this point we decided that if no one planned on waiting us within another 5 minutes we would leave. Well, waitresses went by us again and even making eye contact with us but not stopping. We got up and started walking out. We saw the young hostess standing by the kitchen door and decided to just let her know that we would like to talk to the manager. She took one look at us and scooted into the kitchen as if to hide. Now, I am not the type of person that writes reviews but I cannot ignore how rudely we were treated. Why didn't the young lady come back over and just say, "We are very busy and it may be a few minutes"? We would have been happy to wait. I always spend money in the store buying baby clothes or games for my grandchildren. I was too disappointed to even shop. I hope that this message gets back to the manager that was on duty. We were there around 12:30 and it was not packed. I thought I saw her in the store area when we were leaving but she seemed to disappear down one...
Read moreFelt rushed. And like an inconvenience from the waitress we had. When people are eating 3 mins after they get their food dropping the bill as you ask them with a mothfull of food as soon as they get it isn't the right way to handle customer service. Doubtful I'll ever go back and that was my 1st ever experience.
Reply to (owner) Thank you. The fact that you reached out means a lot. I did what you advised and I appreciate the care and time that you took to reply. It does seem as though you frown upon the way this person handled the situation. And it really does matter that you replied. My friend that loves your stores near and around Philadelphia was exited that we were able to go as she loves the Cracker barrel there. We went to the Big flats/ Horseheads Cracker Barrel and I'm sorry that it was represented in this way, for you! I really do appreciate that you reached out. The email was sent in the man that you asked. I appreciate your compassion. It's a rare thing these days to see such a fast response to customer service issues as I worked in the industry years ago as a side job. And I always left my stuff at the door. Mainly because it's a servers Job to set aside what She/He is getting paid to do besides serve. It's all about the experience as well. I always leave a decent tip. And this time I left a lower one than normal. But it was to hopefully show her that if she would have been,..just pleasant,.. I would have taken it a whole different approach or just asked if there was steam morale thing or even chalked it up to a bad day. Again, thank you. Have a...

While passing through Horseheads, NY, we made a quick lunch stop at Cracker Barrel, a familiar Southern-style chain known for comfort food and cozy vibes. We ordered two entrees: the Shepherd’s Pie Skillet and the Smoky Grilled Chicken.
The Shepherd’s Pie (first two photos) arrived sizzling in a small cast iron skillet and was topped with a golden-brown cheddar crust. It looked indulgent and hearty. Digging in, the savory stew beneath revealed generous chunks of beef, celery, and carrots, nestled under a layer of hash browns and melted cheese. The flavor was rich and comforting, although the cheesy crust was a bit too salty for my palate — otherwise, a satisfying and warming dish, especially for a cold day.
The Smoky Grilled Chicken plate (third photo) was a lighter, more straightforward option. Two grilled chicken breasts were served alongside steamed broccoli and sweet corn. The chicken was seasoned well, but didn’t quite stand out — a solid choice for those looking for a leaner, healthier meal.
Unfortunately, our first-choice dessert, the Strawberry Ice Box Pie, was unavailable. We opted for the Coca-Cola Brownie Cake with vanilla ice cream instead, which sadly didn’t deliver. The brownie was too light and lacked the fudgy richness we were hoping for — not one we’d recommend.
Cracker Barrel offers a dependable stop with friendly service and rustic charm, but on this visit, it was a mixed bag. Stick with the classics, and maybe skip dessert unless it’s that elusive Strawberry...
