I need to share my experience with skippers bc I thought when I walked through the door I would be able to write a positive review, but sadly my good experience changed midway through mine and my guests meal. My sister in laws brought me for a nice day out in Northport for my bachelorette, we had reservations at skippers and walking in I thought the atmosphere felt great. we ordered a round of drinks before looking at the menu while seated in our booth, one drink each, 4 girls. we enjoyed conversation between ourselves, the drinks were good so after ordering our dinner we asked for another round, almost an hour later we realize we never got our drinks and the waiter never returned. We had eaten only half of our meals when I went up to the bar to ask for the drinks we had ordered only to be told that the staff was told by the manager to cut us off, I politely asked why, since we only had one drink each, and with our dinner, he couldn't give me reason just told me the manager said so, I asked for the manager, I was told by him that "this is a classy place" as to which I asked what we did wrong for him to cut us off, he had no answer. After asking several times as to what we did wrong he still had no answer, and kept repeating himself that he had a classy resturant, so did I get loud, yes. Our bill was over $200, we didn't get our second round that we waited an hour for, never to be told that we were cut off, and only ate half our food before we were rudely given our bill and kicked out. I truly believe this was discrimination against a group of girls celebrating a special event. I was mortified and embarrassed and honestly have never been treated with such disrespect. For the record, this place would be considered casual, not classy, and we were clearly being judged. After telling our mother in law about this horrible experience she was infuriated with how we were treated and went back to speak to the manager. She asked who the owner is, he told her he was the owner as well, which I found out afterwards is a lie. I asked again what we did wrong, as to which he finally replied, “you did nothing wrong”. This is the moment I knew we were being discriminated against just because I was a bride to be, and asked to see the cameras so I can know for myself why he would think we needed to be cut off after one drink, he quickly stormed off totally ignoring us once he saw I was recording him. I would never recommend this place to anyone, the staff and management were so unprofessional and made us feel like complete garage insinuating we weren’t classy enough to be there. So...
Read moreSkippers in Northport New York ( have no idea why Google linked this to co.uk ) on the south West corner of Main Street a few blocks away from the Engeman theatre is a small spaced restaurant. Paul is the owner, Tyler manager and 3 young ladies are hostesses. NOTE THIS IS NOT A HANDICAP ACCESSIBLE PLACE. They do have an emblem on their front outside board. Want one ? go across street to the hotel to eat! Had I but known. Entering, they did use a light weight ramp. Wasn’t room to turn a wheelchair. Both men’s and women’s room were so tight with no room to enter or move especially to the bathroom. The emergency exit in back has steps. Having asked hostess to seat us indoors, reply was no due to no reservations though there were many empty tables. Asked for outdoor seating requesting least sun , got full sun .No, the umbrella did not have tilt ability. Manager used clout to move us indoors.Tyler was kind and tried to help. As were so many other people who gave us a hand to move. I thank them all. Finally seated, Tyler explained why curbs are high. Seems they get hi tide floods from nearby bay. His brief history of place -let’s see if I got this right-1978 they were a bar. In 1990s they bought meat store next door and revamped with glass front door an still nautical theme. Moldings are original hand made. With newer pix and lights. Food steak, burrata and wings were good, service slow and wanting. I’d gotten up to get 2 more cloth napkins, dessert menu, get waiter Daniel to order dessert and then bring the check.Yes there were nearby tables he’d served with many people. Bus boys did take plate’s away quickly. I found it so stressful, that it took away any enjoyment, though...
Read moreExpensive, but good. Worth it for the experience but I will explain why I only gave 3 stars. In dining experience for the most part is wonderful. The food is great. Staff is usually very professional, kind, and attentive. However, they’re a corner bar in the heart of Northport that closes their kitchen by 9:30 pm most nights including Saturday’s, and they do not offer take out. When you google the restaurant it gives two options for online ordering, both which are misleading and false. I called the restaurant to place an order for pick up, and the staff member was “not sure what website [I] was looking at.” The second option is ordering through a third party website that essentially brings you to a landing page that states “online ordering unavailable.” Given the establishments location, I am disappointed they do not make themselves more available at high volume times. Maybe I am just use to living in areas where places stay open much later, but 9:30 pm on a Saturday in the month of June for a north shore Main Street bar and restaurant? At minimum they could offer in-person pick up for orders to be placed at the bar. I’m sure many people would gladly pick up and pay ahead, which in turn would result in increased revenue, popularity, notoriety and positive experiences for patrons and locals. The staff is nevertheless lovely, and the food is excellent. I just wish they were more accommodating during the weekends especially during...
