First, I have to say that I love mass produced chain pizza. However, I was looking for a place to grab a bite and I saw some he pizza joint and a taco joint. I was actually heading toward a taco salad of some sort, but my feet took a right and I went to Umbertos Pizzeria instead. I am generally not a fan of NY pizza, but this place serves a scrumptious pie. I had no clue what I was looking for or looking at. Usually, pepperoni and mushroom are my goto. Looking through the glass at all the different types of pizzas available, I chose pieces from two different types. One ended up being a cheese pizza and the other was Chicken Marsala. I have extremely finicky taste buds and no adventure whatsoever when I comes to food. I am not big on reviews either due to the fact that 90% of them are from employees of “X” establishment anyway; but I was very surprised at what I was served, so here it goes...
The cheese pizza was delicious and flavorful. Real tomato sauce, not paste from a can. The cheese...oh my...mmm. I don’t know what kind of cheese it was, but it was fantastic. Kevin from “Home Alone” would have been in heaven.
The Chicken Marsala was even more surprising. Chicken, mushrooms, onions, garlic, and whatever else goes into making this masterpiece was very, very good. Not being a huge fan of chicken and lover or beef, my tongue relished the flavor combinations.
While I’m sure those of you who grew up in NY and Long Island already know how good Umbertos is, but not not being a a native of the area (in fact, I grew up on the west coast), I would encourage all who read this to drop by and have a slice. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you very much! I will come back.
P.S. The young people behind the counter spoke to each other in Italian. I was very impressed by this. Most young folks who are 2nd or 3rd generation Americans have no desire to be part of their heritage. On the contrary with these young people. My hats off to you. Keep up the great artistic works of food and never forget where...
Read moreAs you can see by the photo we took today, we had dinner at Umberto's Of New Hyde Park - IN SAYVILLE. Our Christmas Gift Certificate clearly states Umberto's of New Hyde Park - and so does this sign - which is in Sayville. We ordered an amount over the gift card amount - and they REFUSED TO TAKE THE GIFT CARD because (wait for it...) it wasn't in New Hyde Park!!! What??? You call yourself Umberto's of New Hyde Park - and you are both owned by the Umberto's of New Hyde Park owners!!! I'd love to say that this was a good experience, as Umberto's of New Hyde Park is KNOWN for their excellence, but, being a pizza lover, I can NOT attest to their expertise. I love pizza RIGHT out of the oven (Colosseo's) - this pizza had to have been cooked above the recommended heat, as even after cutting it and putting it on a paper plate, then waiting for us to come to get it at the counter - it burned all of our mouths! I mean the whole roof of our mouths! And the crust was BLACK! But, ok, that's 'hot' pizza. How about Baked Ziti with extra ricotta? Under the muzz. cheese it was all SOUP! The ziti was not well - drained and so the ricotta was swimming in UNDERCOOKED ziti! The Shrimp Parm. had 4 small shrimp with a trace of sauce and almost no muzz. It didn't even cover both halves of the bread. It was mostly bread. I hope that you are able to tell that this was a horrible...
Read moreI had a really horrible experience here. They said a gluten free pizza would be ready in 15 minutes, but I ended up waiting an hour. What was really disappointing was that people who ordered ten, twenty, thirty minutes after we did got their pizza first. Some of these people even finished eating their pizzas before we got ours. Also, A gluten free pizza is 18 dollars! That's almost twice as much as what the pizzeria I usually go to charges. The staff said it was almost done but 20 minutes later it wasn't. The other customers were rude and took our seats because we were "waiting for too long". When I finally got it, they got the order wrong, because there was no pepperoni on mine. My friend got a regular one, and his one was extra cheese but the cheese was everywhere and it looked like a mess. After eating my stomach felt weird. I guess these "gluten free pies" probably have been exposed to gluten because the staff members don't change their gloves. Some of them didn't have gloves. My friend almost dropped his because the boxes are poorly designed. I used to like this place, but its clear they care about the money more than the experience of their customers. I wish this place respected their customers, guess I was wrong. Expensive, Lousy service, and bad food and...
