Same great nostalgic atmosphere, coupled with welcoming friendly service, eager to seat you and fill up that cup. I remember going to this diner as a very small child, way back when it was just a little place and smoking was cool. So many memories, including the food! I can honestly say for the past 40+ years I have ordered the exact same meal, EVERY time. And up until yesterday, it has been the exact delicious meal I crave! Trust me, it was not horrible, just not the same which left me disappointed. I must say, I miss the old way. I always order an open face turkey sandwich, with gravy, and FF with gravy, and a glass of chocolate milk (the only time I drink cows milk these days). Historically, the turkey is moist, thinly sliced and ribbon like placed on fresh bread, all warmed up with a mouth watering blanket of gravy. FF are usually nice big square cut, golden crispy perfection mounded on the side of the turkey with a bowl of gravy for dipping placed near by…It was Perfection! Yesterday, the turkey was butchered in a thick chunk, was very dry and crumbled when you tried to cut it. Topped with cold gravy, which still had what appeared to be flour chunks in it and congealed. My FF were thinner, smaller (like bottom of the bag) well over done, and if they weren’t too crispy to chew, they were soggy from way too much cold gravy dumped on the center of the pile. After eating the exact same meal for well over 40+ years, ya kinda expect it to remain the same. If it’s not broke, don’t break it! Im sad that my favorite meal there was messed with. I hope they considering going back with traditional ways, they clearly had also valued themselves for so long. I really don’t want to change my own, by not ordering my all time favorite! (Btw: yes, I’ve also had other items off the menu in addition!) sad to say, I haven’t been impressed over the past year… bummed. I’m not giving up, just won’t give it another...
Read moreI would really like to give this place a much higher rating. My girlfriend and I went there and dined in the first time. She cannot ingest gluten and articulated that clearly.
First, her burger was delivered on a bun. She sent it back, only to have her chips replaced by fries, which I’m assuming was meant to be an upgrade. Of course, it was not. She ate the burger anyway, risking cross-contamination. We lucked out.
Our second experience was about the same. It was a pick up order. When I called the order in, I was very specific about the gluten concerns. After the first meal, I felt it necessary to repeat the order at least twice: an omelette with nothing but home fries. The person on the phone seemed to understand clearly and told me it wouldn’t be a problem.
I picked up the order and brought it back. When she opened her food, there were two slices of toast haphazardly placed on top of her omelette. My burger was cooked medium. Not to split hairs, but I wasn’t asked how I wanted it cooked. Having worked at a diner myself in the past, I would think that “done” would be the default for ground beef. The burger was good besides that minor detail.
I was not happy about the toast. The order was placed meticulously. It didn’t make me look very smart on my date, even though it wasn’t me who dropped the ball. I was trying to make an impression. I gave B’Ville Diner a second chance. Hopefully, I’ll be gifted with the same compassion. I feel like it cost me.
The point here is this: good business promises low and delivers high. If the diner doesn’t offer gluten free options, they should state that clearly. The atmosphere and decor are splendid. The staff are friendly, but perhaps there are some communication barriers between the wait staff and the kitchen....
Read moreHit or miss. I've been here a handful of times. First time was awesome. We went for breakfast and was surved our food quickly, and it was warm, friendly and lively staff. We went for dinner one night and walked out after 45 minutes of patiently waiting. We asked our server if our food was at least being made before we left so we could at least maybe wait just a little longer. She told us the cook had not even started our meal. We told her to let him know not to cook it as we are just going to go elsewhere at this point. Third incident I can recall was a group of us went there one night after work. We waited a decent time once our food finally came out to us three out of the four plates were cold to the touch. We all ordered hot dinners from the grill. The food was cold from the outside in. The poor waitress felt bad and offered to take it off. (there was no management at this hour I've been in the business long enough to know she was going to pay for it-we were not going to let that happen) we paid $40+ for food that we did not eat. On a better note we went again at the same later hour in the night as the last terrible time. Praying it would be a little better. It was a lot better! Maybe because we ordered breakfast plates this time instead of dinner plates. Only three of us this time but still much better. And we had the same sweet server. I will have to get her name next time. I believe it was Serina though, she is awesome!! Overall, it is just a dinner, may be great food, may be cold food. May the odds be in your favor when...
