THE GOOD I enjoyed the tortilla soup, it was very flavorful. The spanish rice was wonderful as well. The carne asada street tacos were pretty good. The chile relleno was awesome but was smothered in enchilada sauce and queso sauce which took away from the great relleno. Salsa was amazing.
THE BAD Refried beans were terribly bland. The chille verde was just greasy pulled pork with no green chile. I told the server about the meat and she said that that's what it is. (Yo soy Mexicano, I know what chile verde is, that was not it. Wheres the chile?) The food took just under 2 hours from order to table ( I was watching the time). Once it arrived it was cold. When I asked for the tortillas that come with the entree the waitress gave me attitude and I had to ask another server for them. I had to ask 2 different servers 4 times for utensil to eat my food. I had to ask 2 servers to get water. I had to get up many time to advocate for my table (with my mask on) and was scolded by staff to sit down because of COVID restrictions. My wife had a medium margarita and after drinking it was the drunkest I have ever seen her ( she said that she hasn't been that drunk since her college days) and she ended up throwing it up because of how drunk she had become. The table next to is got a large margarita and he became loud, annoying and bilogerent. The waitress seemed to be inconveinenced by us and was never available and did not seemed concerned by the length of time our food took or the challenges that we had with it.
MY RECOMMENDATIONS Train your staff to get them on the same page as far as service goes. I could tell that there were some good servers there but ours just wasn't interested.
Reduce the menu. As large as the menu is I could understand why some things were good and others were bland, there is just too much going on for the kitchen to be sucessful.
I REALLY WANT YOU TO BE SUCESSFUL. I would not want to endure another night like we did though. I wont be comming back to the Baldwinsville location any time soon. I think there are a few things that need to be refined in house. I will try again in a few months to see if there is...
Read moreSan Miguel Mexican Bar & Grill was great! Was there on a Friday night with a party of 4 and we nabbed a reservation for 615pm. That may not have been completely necessary but it was busy and it never hurts to have one.
The location of the restaurant may be tricky if you aren't familiar with Baldwinsville. There is a fairly spacious lot in the middle of The Bville diner, the dollar general and San Miguel for reference. And San Miguel itself from the parking lot goes down a ramp or stairs to the entrance of the restaurant.
The restaurant itself stays true to the form of all the iterations that came before it, a good sized space with ample seating and in warmer weather there is some seating outside by the river. The booth we sat at had an unfortunate feature of being right under the heating and air conditioning and we were going from hot to cold depending on the heat going on and off. If you enter and go left and straight back to the corner, you may want to avoid that table until that can be adjusted.
Most importantly the food and service were both incredible! Our server was fantastic and she took great care of us during a busy evening there. All the food was delicious and there were happy tummies all around. The jalapeno poppers were some of the best I've ever had. The main courses everyone either finished every bite or made sure to take the rest home. We all ordered our own dessert and again 4 happy sets of taste buds. If you can't tell what I'm getting at, it's that you won't be disappointed with whatever you get. Best Mexican ever, that's for you to decide, absolutely delicious, it definitely was.
I highly recommend San Miguel and when you go, I of course,...
Read moreFor my first time visiting, I have to say I would only do takeout moving forward. We were greeted by the host and asked several times if we had a reservation (we did not). Another customer commented how the host passive aggressively said to me “okay, party of five WITHOUT a reservation!” as she put my name on the waitlist. I had no issues waiting because we EXPECTED to wait at peak hours. We had tried to call ahead but were placed on hold immediately after someone answering and then they never got back to us. There was a 20-30 wait so my family and I decided to take a short walk outside and returned with about 15min left (I put a timer on my phone). The host then rudely exclaimed to my mother “you all have only waited 7 minutes and still have 13min left for your table” with the absolute worst attitude. I didn’t bother to comment. She RAN us to the table when it was ready without any word said. It was honestly a very unsettling atmosphere. A party of 6-7 girls also walked in WITH a reservation, but the host pointed to the “house rules” that it bumps down priority even if you book ahead. Our server seemed to be handling several different parts of the dining room which added to our wait time. We got our food quicker than the hour at most that was listed as another “house rule.” Needless to say the service was due to understaffing but first impressions are everything. The host was probably the least apologetic and she was the only one with the...
