A bit of a backup plan coming here, but I had read about the location not too long ago so I felt like this was a good option.
Ordered over the phone ahead of time, roughly 4 hours ahead of time for pickup. I went with an order of the Calamari Fritta and Chicken Milanese, and when I got there my order was not ready. I was told this was because they wanted to make sure it was as fresh and hot as possible, but either I think they forgot about my order as I recall being told over the phone that they were "not use to the system they were using yet." Or they were not sure I was going to show up, as they could not take payment over the phone and I was putting in my order well ahead of time. Ended up waiting an extra 12 minutes after the order should have been ready, but I was going to overlook this, at first. We'll get to why I'm not passing over that detail now.
Once I got home and dug into everything I was satisfied with the Calamari, which was the best of the two dishes. A little less crunchy than I enjoy my fried Calamari, but I thought that was due to being steamed inside its takeout container for the 30 minute driver home. But that ancho aioli sauce paired perfectly with both the Calamari and poblano peppers, so good, though I would have included a lemon wedge or two as I prefer a nice squeeze of the juice. The Chicken was alright, but when I cut into it I found it to still be pinkish in the center, not to a degree I felt it was undercooked, but it didn't taste quite right. Being a trooper I trudged ahead, finding the grilled asparagus matching up really well with the prosciutto. Weirdly there was no asparagus in the menu description, and the pico de gallo was poured ontop of the chicken and not under it as described.
Overall I was hovering at a 4 star slapper, and then about 20 to 30 minutes after the meal I had some major stomach issues. To keep that story short something in this ran through me like a freight train, and I ended up passing out after a few trips to the bathroom leaving me drained and empty. When I did wake up I had lost most of my afternoon, and concluded the only thing that could have done this was either the Chicken itself or the Calamari which might have actually of been undercooked as well. Remember back to that wait I mentioned? It just made me think they rushed my order, and while impressive they got it all together in 12 minutes, resulted in something not being done right.
I really do hate to be that guy, but my experience speaks for itself. A strange wait for the meal ordered well in advance, a decent tasting meal, but resulting in a real bad time soon afterwards. Wish I could be...
Read moreMy father was French-Irish and my mother Italian thus I am an example of fusion. Today I had an opportunity to have dinner at 42 Fusion in Ballston Spa and I was absolutely and pleasantly surprised at the marriage between Mexican~Italian foods. While I always would brag about mama’s lasagne, now I have to brag about the lasagne at 42 Fusion. Lasagne’s soul is its cheese. Traditionally it’s Ricotta and some Americans substitute Cottage Cheese which is, well “cheesy”.
At 42 the Lasagna is a perfect blend of beef, chorizo and veal layered with a blend of Oaxacan cheese and mozzarella with fresh kitchen made Italian tomato sauce. Exactly as it states in the menu and in my Fusion heritage opinion it is absolutely delicious and to die for!
For dessert was their Cannoli and I must say it was on par with Boston’s North End Mike’s Pastry, Modern Pastry and Bova Bakery!!!
If you happen not to be an alcohol consumer, I am more of a holiday consumer, try their bottled Mexican Jarritos Strawberry Soft Drink…fruit sweet.
My final opinion—this very new restaurant has a dedicated cook, excellent food choices, a welcoming and accommodating staff and all the ingredients for success.
42 Fusion is still their soft opening as they are patiently waiting for their liquor license and that often causes some people to say, “we’ll wait.”
If you want to have a good meal without the alcohol, go for it for now because I believe you will enjoy their food...
Read moreIf you're looking for a bold new take on dinner, 42 Fusion is the place to be. At first glance, the concept—Mexican and Italian fusion—might sound a bit strange. But take one bite, and you’ll realize it’s a combination that absolutely works. In fact, it soars.
Let’s start with the food. The guacamole? Quite possibly the best I’ve ever had—bright, creamy, and perfectly seasoned. The pizza is another standout: thin crust, crispy to perfection, and bursting with bold, flavorful toppings that balance Mexican spices and Italian tradition seamlessly. The short ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender, slow-braised and full of rich, smoky depth.
One of the most surprisingly amazing dishes? The Mexican lasagna—layers of pasta, cheese, and spiced meat with just the right heat. It's comfort food reinvented. And don’t sleep on the appetizers either—the mussels are fresh and savory, swimming in a broth you’ll want to mop up with every bit of bread you can find.
Now, a quick note: getting the food can be a bit slow, especially during busy hours. But trust me—it’s worth the wait. The quality and creativity that come out of the kitchen more than make up for a few extra minutes.
Cocktail lovers will be just as thrilled. The drink menu is creative and extensive, with plenty of tequila-based options and expertly crafted cocktails. Whether you're sipping a smoky mezcal negroni or a fresh jalapeño margarita, there’s something for everyone.
Highly...
