388 — Restaurant in Town of North Hempstead

The food was ok. I have some favorite Italian places and this visit fell below expectations for sure. Two things really bothered me.

1- The salad for $28. Only iceberg lettuce on TOP of 4 small strips of roasted peppers, 5 wedges of tomatoes, and a few tiny olives peppered in. The value is terrible and the presentation was equally bad with all the ingredients under the lettuce. Less than half a head of iceberg only lettuce with those ingredients for $28 is just unacceptable. I’ve had absolutely beautiful salads at multiple restaurants with so much more ingredients for literally half that price. That was no better than a single salad. Certainly not family style if that was supposed to be one.

2- We had the full “family” style order of their Sunday Sauce, $38. This dish, for those who do not know, is pasta and red sauce with meatballs, sausage, and usually pork as well. Their version was one large meatball which is big so that’s acceptable. There was ONE sausage cut up into 4 pieces! There was no other meat either. Sorry, for this much money and to say that it is “family style” (supposed to feed 2-3 people), you need to have at LEAST 3 sausages especially when there is no pork braciole which is part of a real Sunday sauce.

I am very suprised at the food and presentation when compared to the price. Not worth it from my view for...

It is with sadness that I write this, as 388 was once our favorite restaurant. We have had many parties and family gatherings over the years. I made a reservation for Christmas eve dinner for my 90 yr old mom and myself for 8pm. As we arrived with her walker, it was nearly impossible to reach the desk to check in, afyer 20 mins, I was able to check in and found a chair for my mother.at 9:00 pm, an hour later we still were not seated. I again attempted to find out what the situation was, thru all the chaos, no one was manning the front desk and I was so upset for my mother. She hadn't eaten all day, looking forward to the dinner. At 9:30, I went to the desk to try to get an answer. Needless to say, we finally decided to leave. I informed "the seater" that we were leaving, he wasn't the least bit interested. Thank you 388 for ruining our Christmas. At this point it was too late to try and find somewhere else to have dinner. This was so disrespectful to an elderly, handicapped person as well. It was truly a horrific experience considering how difficult it is to transport her in and out of the car to sit there for an hour and half and not have been seated. I hope no one ever has such an experience....

BUYER BEWARE!!!

We recently visited 388 and unfortunately had a poor experience. Drinks took an unreasonable amount of time to arrive, and there were serious discrepancies on our bill.

We were charged over $150 for food and drinks we never ordered or received, which is unacceptable. (Ex. Order 2 shrimp cocktail charged for 4. Ordered 2 drinks that never came - charged for 3).

To make matters worse, they added extra charges without notifying us beforehand, claiming it was to "accommodate" the number of people at our table. This felt deceptive and unprofessional. This is family style. Tacking on another $30 for an additional ONE piece of pounded butterflied chicken breast is absurd ESPECIALLY when it wasn’t asked for.

The meals were ok - nothing to write home about. Frankly I’m shocked at the reviews. I’ve had far better food at a hole in the wall place.

They tried (and succeeded) to take advantage of a party of 7.
