BC Bistro is that brunch spot where the food is well above your expectations. Walking in, you quickly realize that this small restaurant is connected to the popular Buttercookery bakery, but don't spoil your appetite by gorging on baked sweets. Trust me, save that for for dessert.
The bistro's clean, smooth and bright interiors underscore a predilection to quality, which is quickly evidenced in the plating and presentation of this unassuming Long Island eatery. Service was also prompt and unpretentious, which I'd imagine goes great when packed with families on weekends. We overheard a server talking about weekly events such as a trivia night and music night, which do feel more dive bar, but are great pulls for the local community.
If you're coming for brunch, and partial to meat, the Buttermilk biscuits are a pleasant surprise. The New Orleans style dish is drenched in a savory sauce with chunks of bacon, peppers, and green onions to enhance the flavor profile.
The Chicken and Waffles were in the same category. While the waffles were a bit dull from a flavor profile, the chicken was light, with a crunchy, buttermilk coating preceding little succulent bites. It would have been great to try the Belgian Waffles to see if they held up the same.
The Meat Lovers Omelette came complete with a light arugula salad and almost perfectly melted cheddar cheese. Admittedly, while picturesque, if fell apart easily, but only because it was stuffed with bites of mouth-watering bacon, ham, and sausage. You'd be pressed to muster any complaints about this dish.
Our only qualm, if this could be one is the servers aren't overly attentive (not unique to this restaurant). Some people prefer it this way, and it's certainly not a deal breaker. That said, it did take over four minutes to get the attention of a server to request ketchup, and the venue wasn't exactly packed on our last visit.
All in all, if you're looking for a low-hassle brunch spot near Queens Village or Floral Park that is family-friendly and has better than advertised food, you can do far worse than BC Bistro. The cuisine is decidedly American, and at least for brunch isn't experimental. Which means they are cranking out tried and true favorites the whole family will recognize immediately and appreciate...
Read moreWell, things have to change from an original 5 star review down to a 2 star. Just came here for New Years Eve dinner, and I am so disappointed and may never be back. Once again, sloppy service from a what seems one waiter that covers every table in the restaurant that I never complained about because the regular menu covers up for his deficiency.
But for New Years Eve, they had a 90 dollar prefix menu, and you get to pick a starter, entree and dessert. Knowing that the New Years Eve will jack up prices I came but in turn one normally expects elevated food to make it worth it, I came.
What a disappointment, I ordered a salad to start which was fine and then had the pork chop which was tiny for 90 dollars but it was tasty until you get half in and ran into the fat. Only half the pork chop was edilbe. Very tasty small sides to go with pork chop couldn't make up the difference to fill myself.
My wife had the lamb shank, which was tender, but the off taste brought the plate down completely, and we boxed it for our dog .
Desserts were average and edible but not up to the tres leches dessert we usually get here, which was off the supposedly special menu.
Fortunately, for poor service, drinks could only be ordered once, but that also meant it took me to ask for water to get a one refill 1 hour and 15 minutes into service. Fortunately, I mean the bill and tip would have been even more ridiculous based on expecting good food and service for our money.
The staff got a 90 dollar tip for refilling water once only because we requested it and never even offered to refill anything else. The restaurant was a little more than half full, so service shouldn't have been so bad, but it's just been average every other time i visited.
BC Bistro is off my restaurant rotation, as I left this place feeling like I was physically robbed this night.
What where the owners thinking 90 dollars for a fatty pork chop, a salad, and mini chocolate mousse. When I go to restaurants, I say nothing and let them show exoerience who they are. They spoke volumes to me this night based on price, service and food.
From 5 stars to 2, and I am done here at BC Bistro as I can't throw away money for slow sevrvice and food not...
