I originally wrote this review on a small local facebook group, and it was deleted so I am sharing here on a more public platform where they can not delete it.
"You guys have a problem with your beer and your staff gets super rude when you suggest anything about it.
Had a fat tire (one of my fav beers) for $9 a couple weeks ago there, and after a single sip I knew it was either bad or your lines haven't been cleaned in a long time. Completely undrinkable. When I told the bartender, she told me it wasnt her problem to deal with. I wasn't asking for a refund, a substitution, or suggesting I wouldn't pay or anything like that. Regardless, she got super rude with me for the suggestion that the beer wasn't right, which could honestly be a health concern if it was the lines and someone got sick from it. Terrible, awful experience and never buying beer there again."
It was a slow night, we were one of only about 5 people in the bar early in the week. The music scene here can be fun IF the right people are there that night (often not), but otherwise this place is really just an awful experience all around. Expensive and bad beer with a rude staff who would rather hide negative feedback than address it.
Also, compare the reviews on google to the ones on yelp - the google ones are old and the ones on yelp are way more recent/honest. It is apparent that in recent years (especially since the pandemic) the place has gone way downhill and that there are far better places to spend your time and money...
Read moreBeen going to this place for years. Played their in bands, and have also spent way to much time at the bar. The atmosphere is good in a sense it doesn't attract the crowds the other bars in the area do(and there are way too many for the small town of Nyack). It's a nice little dive aimed at the indie rock scene, although Metal bands make their appearance every now and then. I will warn you if you're in a band expecting to make money, this probably isn't the place you want to play. Besides that, the PA is awful, and you'll probably want to pack some power conditioners if you plan on plugging in amps or electronics. The food is good for bar food, and I have no complaints at all in the 10+ years of visits. As far as the bar/decor/furniture, it hasn't changed ever since the first day I've walked in, and it's been time for a change to in that department for a while.
Overall, Olives is a nice Dive bar that has it's own charm, and is a good break from the rest of the places up and down main street. There's a reason this place has been a mainstay while others have...
Read moreOn my brother's birthday we walked by and heard some live music So we went in and we're very pleased. I don't know that the drinks were anything to write home about, But everyone seemed to enjoy them. I was driving so I didn't drink anything although I did snack on some of the chips at the table and I most certainly enjoyed the live music. A guy named Nev was singing and he did a great combination of covers and originals. His voice was more smooth and rich than any bar singer I have heard in recent years and the guy playing guitar with him did an original as well which was incredible. I'm sure this place is nice on other nights but for our purposes the music made...
