We had lunch at the Hawkeye Bar & Grill at The Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown, NY on Thu 6.30.22. We thought this landmark may have been a bit more than we would spend for lunch. But our friends at Glimmerglass Arts & Antiques assured us that it would be value priced & summer casual. Perfect. It's a patio setting overlooking the south shore of beautiful Otsego Lake. It has an indoor, covered outdoor, & sunny patio for dining. Very relaxing atmosphere. No reservation but we were seated immediately by the hostess. Our wait person was the very pleasant Masego who brought water & menus to the table and took our drinks & lunch orders. The tables around us were filling up quickly but there was plenty of staff and orders were brought to tables promptly. We had a fine house chardonnay ($10) and an excellent refreshing Bloody Mary ($7.41). My bride had the simple burger w/ herbed potato & cauliflower salad - unique & tasty ($15) I had the Shaved Prime Rib Panini w/ Gruyere Horseradish Spiked Onion on Focaccia ($17) - perfectly cooked medium rare & tender w/ another unique side of horseradish spiked coleslaw-an excellent accompaniment to the prime rib. The total was $64. w/ tax. A valued priced lunch at an historic hotel. There is also a fine dining restaurant inside the hotel. We can highly recommend the Hawkeye for lunch or dinner when visiting the Cooperstown area. Hours: 11:30am-11pm daily. Thank you for an excellent first visit. We will be back. And thank you Susan & Phil for the recommendation. Nick &...
Read moreNot our first visit. We are an hour away from the Hawkeye Bar & Grille, but we occasionally come out not only for the exceptional food, but the lakefront patio dining available. Located at the Otesaga Resort, the whole place has an elevated level of customer service. Although we often have different waitstaff due to the time between visits, they are always top notch and eager to please the customer. Yesterday, we had Ugur serve us, who saw to all our needs and when we asked where the unique fresh table flowers came from, immediately engaged Matt, a server who was there longer, to answer the question. We hailed manager Nick to compliment his staff. He was appreciative of the feedback. A great experience. As for the food, lunch is reasonably priced and not mainstream. Check out their menu. I had a shaved steak panini that was made from a perfect prime rib roast with gruyere cheese on craft bread with a generous side. My partner had the Red Thai Curry dish which they enjoyed for not only the variety of vegetables, but also the curry sauce the was served on the side so it could be applied to one's desire. Although we didn't have dessert this time, we have they are also unusual, delicious and...
Read moreI went here to celebrate my birthday and unfortunately it was not a great experience. The service was very slow and the food was not good at all. We ordered the brisket burnt ends, and it was basically chopped up meat with bbq sauce thrown on it. It was not caramelized, burnt or anything. We also ordered the French onion soup and I sent it back. The flavor tasted very fake and it was not even edible. Next for our entree we had the strip steak with veggies, that was actually decent but nothing special. I had the chicken pot pie and it was ok, not much flavor. Next I had the apple crisp for dessert and the apples weren’t cooked all the way and it was honestly the worst apple crisp I’ve ever had. The only good thing was the ice cream on top. The whole dinner took over two hours because the service was so slow. It was not busy in there either. I don’t know if we caught them on an off night, but unfortunately we will not be going back. I would not...
