Breakfast Food & service: meh, the view is excellent
Nice location, low service standards (3 visits), food poorly prepared.
This restaurant has a nice location overlooking the lake. We visited on three different Sundays a few months apart. On each occasion we experienced similar issues. The service standards aren't good.
From our most recent visit: We were promptly seated and our order was taken. Coffee, juice and water arrived in a reasonable amount of time. The coffee was hot. There was an unbussed table in a nearly empty dining room. After a while the dirty plates were moved to a tray, but the tray with the dirty dishes was left in the dining room for 15 minutes. There were dead bugs on several of the window sills inside the dining room.
A radio station playing 1980's hits was playing loudly. I enjoyed the music, though it seemed an odd choice for a Sunday morning breakfast.
Our server did not return to refill our coffee & water before the meal arrived.
The meals arrived in a reasonable amount of time. A half empty ketchup bottle was brought to the table with the meal (good that ketchup was delivered with the meal, bad that it was half empty). The pancakes were quite thin and not fluffy. The omlette was overcooked. The homefries were also quite overcooked and tough. Also, they were just cubes of fried potatoes (no onions, garlic, tomatoes, or spices). The salsa for the Mexican omlette was good. Fresh tasting, possibly even house made. It was not typical sysco corn syrup salsa.
The server did not come back to check on our table. I saw an individual from a different table get up to go to the wait station to get ketchup. I saw another server deliver juice glasses by holding them from the top of the cups. Servers should use beverage trays and hold glasses from the bottom. I don't want someone's sweaty palm on the rim of my glass.
Our server greeted a new party two tables down from us, but still did not come over to check on our meal or offer refills on coffee and water. After ten minutes with no check back, I went up to the hostess stand to ask my server for refills on coffee and water.
The server was somewhat apologetic. The refill on the coffee was hot.
As we finished our meals our dishes were not cleared and remained on the table. I asked for the check and it was delivered. The server did not come back to get the check, I had to go to the host stand to give it to her.
In my opinion this restaurant needs a manager to train waitstaff on common service expectations. I saw similar issues across two visits and witnessed other tables not receiving good service. There are several good options for breakfast in Cooperstown. Unless you have a burning need to look at the lake while eating, this is not one of them.
One of the two bathrooms is marked as handicapped accessible. There's a ramp leading to a packed gravel parking lot. The gravel is tightly packed enough to probably not pose a problem for a wheelchair. The tables in the dining room are somewhat close and might pose a slight obstacle for wheelchair access.
In summary: refill coffee & water, check back one or two minutes after dropping food, clean the windows, don't put home fries under a heat lamp, pre-bus dirty dishes from tables & remove them from the dining room, use beverage trays, don't hold glasses from the top. Positives: hot coffee, good...
Read moreI never leave reviews especially since it doesn't take much to please me. However i must leave one for this place. I can't give it an over all zero. Customer service was pretty decent. The food was good. The first time we went i had the crabcake sandwich with sweet potatoe fries and enjoyed the sandwich very much. BUT the cleanliness of the restaurant was shot when we decided to eat in doors and had several flies hovering over our food IN DOORS. i hate eating outside for this reason. I do not like bugs so we decided to eat in doors. Because i understand this place is located right by the lake i decided to not care to much about the 3 or 4 flies around me. And went a second time for breakfast. This time we again ate in doors but decided to grab a window seat over looking the lake and that was the biggest mistake of my life. Never have i eaten at a reataurant with such disgusting windows.
I've travelled on occasion to cities where the windows may have smudges or even a small case of bird poop and again that does not bother me so much... but We are talking about massive spider webs on the outside of the windows. Flies, bugs and worst of all one dead fly on the window sill in doors right by the table.. i get this place is on the lake but the windows looked like they had not been clean all summer!. i could barely swollow my food without feeling so disgusted. The meal was practically free because we had some vouchers from staying at the hotel. But after that breakfast we decided that place is just not worth saving a couple bucks on.
Disgusting sanitary issue and owner should really keep this place clean or just not have seats over looking lake if all people will be eating next too are windows full of webs and flies all over their food.
Place had potential but i will not be recommending this restaurant at all.
The hotel itself was lovely. Clean rooms cozy atmosphere and renting pontoons amd taking rhe glimmerglass boat was wonderful. This review is strictly only for the restaurant because everything...
Read moreHorribly unprofessional. I made a reservation several weeks out ahead of a trip to Cooperstown with my dad. When we arrived for our reservation, the sign on the door said “closed for a private event.” I called the restaurant and the hostess responded that our reservation would still be honored. As we entered, she literally tried to sit us in the middle of someone else’s wedding party. There was a sign in the dining room for the wedding, and several guests (understandably) seemed confused as to why we were even being seated when they should have had the restaurant to themselves. Lake Front made the decision on behalf of their guests that both the wedding guests as well as anyone who happened to make a reservation for that night would be completely fine with the situation. I personally did not feel comfortable sitting, much less trying to enjoy dinner, in a dining room packed with guests for a party I’m not attending. We quickly left, leaving our Saturday night dinner plans completely ruined. They only got 2 stars because I enjoyed my meal here last year, but I will not...
