Decided to try somewhere new last night for dinner. Mad For Chicken on Washington Avenue in Plainview. Overall experience was fantastic and can't wait to go back! Some interesting items on the menu that we would love to try. When going there the parking entrance is a bit deceptive. There is a driveway gated off but continue a hundred feet and turn in the next driveway entrance. Parking can be tight depending on the time of night. We waited a brief few minutes for a table. After settling in a beer and dinner menu were provided and our drink orders were taken. There was a great bar area to sit and have a drink if you had to wait or to even just eat at the bar. Mid way through our meal not a seat or table available. Our waitress was so nice and very professional but at the same time treated us kindly like we were friends. Knew all about the foods and was good enough to explain the heat level on some things. We first ordered from the bar and our beers came right away. We then ordered the fried dumplings that are filled with beef, pork and veggies served hot, mild or half and half. The mild dumplings were outstanding! I preferred them over the hot. Our waitress warned us that the hot would be an 8 or 9 heat wise and she was not wrong. We're talking watery eyes, runny nose and burning lips lol perfect for only one of the two of us at the table. A bowl of popcorn is brought complimentary to the table, nice little touch if there were a delay in ordering or food coming out. We were in watching some of the dishes coming out around us to other tables and everything looked so delicious. So many friend chicken combos and they come in small medium or large portions. The MFC fried chicken has a soy garlic coating on the fried and the superbly crispy chicken doesn't get soggy! You can get almost everything mild, spicy or half and half had fries with my chicken that were excellent. Also ordered the bbq chicken sandwich mild with butter pickles and cole slaw on the sandwich and a side of chili fries which were delicious but I would order the fries well done so they become less soggy from the tasty chili. There different flavored fries that you can swap out for the plain. MFC wings and tenders have 7 sauces available from basic bbq to mango habenero. The owner came over and spent a good 10 minutes talking to us and asking for feedback and telling us how he is local to Plainview, as are we, and how he wanted to bring something different to our community and I'll tell you, we are grateful! He was a pleasure to talk to and after our conversation and meal he brought us a piece of their in house cheesecake with a caramel drizzle and whipped cream and it was devine. I am really looking forward to going back and trying a few new things, more Korean dishes and maybe even sitting outside as they are preparing an outside dining area for the summer. So happy to have come across this restaurant. Staff all happy and friendly and working well together and service was done with a smile. Now one negative for a dinner time service, loud music causes people to have to talk louder to each other so it is a little loud but it won't stop me from going back and truth is,...
Read moreI honestly had really high expectations for this place when they opened because I’ve been going to the northern Blvd and bell Blvd location for my whole life and it’s amazing over there. But this particular store is such a disappointment and I’m so sad because I live 5 mins away and was hoping I can always come back when I crave Korean fried chicken. My first time here was when they first opened and I ordered the traditional soy garlic wings, soy garlic tenders, and Parmesan truffle fries.
traditional soy garlic wings: super soggy and the batter coating is way too thick. Made me nausea after eating 2-3 of them
tenders: much better than the wings but still somewhat soggy
fries: way too much Parmesan and I don’t taste the truffle at all
Korean fried chicken wings should be crispy and crunchy on the outside but the whole time I was pretty much eating soggy soy garlic batter.
Today, I decided to give this place another try because I gave them the benefit of the doubt since when I last visited it was still new and still adjusting. This time I tried the same traditional soy garlic wings, spicy rice cakes, and kimchi fried rice. I am so upset and disappointed. Same thing with the wings… soggy and full of batter, not even the slightest crispy or crunch. Kimchi fried rice was not even red and tasted just like regular fried rice and not even spicy. (I’ve had this dish multiple times at other locations and it’s always been red with full of kimchi flavor). The rice was also seem to be over cooked since majority of the rice pieces are burnt with black crust. I did see bits and pieces of kimchi but the flavor definitely isn’t there (maybe use stronger fermented kimchi). The spicy rice cake (Tteok- bokki) was good but the portion is extremely small for the price I paid. Sounds insane, but there was only 6 pieces of rice cake :( and majority of the dish was cabbage and onions which we didn’t end up eating anyways… we paid for the rice cakes not for cabbage and onions. The dish came in a pint and 75% of the pint was cabbage onions and the soup.
Unfortunately I will never be back since it’s extremely pricey as well. 3 dishes today costed me $65 and I couldn’t even enjoy it.
If anyone is looking for good Korean fried chicken, I highly recommend rockstar chicken inside bazaar supermarket near the little neck area. I live in Plainview and it’s usually a 20 minute drive without traffic. The chicken there is phenomenal and they’re...
Read moreYou really owe it you yourself to try Mad for chicken in Plainview. It's a really nice spot that feels cool and fresh.
It's absolutely is amazing for when you want something incredible, and are tied of the same old options. I didn't want the tired pizza, Chinese, falafel, n burgers. I wanted something different.
I remembered passing by here a little while back and getting excited when I saw the name, since have gone all the way to Flushing for Korean style fried chicken. But i live in Huntington so that's kinda far, but this is super close.
I ordered the scallion chicken and a side of Kimchi and I was so hungry and it was so good I messed up n forgot to take a picture and didn't realize until I was almost done. The double fried chicken comes out super crisp and even stays crisp when sauced with the soy garlic, the sweet mustard sauce for dipping was a perfect sweet and tangy yellow mustard based side for dipping. . I normally don't like honey mustard either bc there's so so much bad honey mustard or there, but this was great.
It is also really nice inside, a fresh cool spot with an awesome garage door they open when it's nice out. It's the Tuesday after memorial day and the weather is perfect for this. There's a really nice bar to sit at and they have a really great craft beer selection.
This spot is really what's missing in the area and they are actually putting out fantastic food and they have a great beer selection. This place is perfect. I can't wait to come back for more.
