This place makes a fortune off scamming people. I’ve been coming to this location for about two months now and today was my last visit. In the beginning I used to order the same thing, a mini bagel with eggs cooked with tomato & onion, home fries and avocado on a bagel which always came out to over $12, which is ridiculous but they would tell me it’s $2.50 extra for the avocado and then .29 extra if you pay w a cc and all these other extra charges. One day I decided to get it without avocado and my total came out to a little over $7. $6.49 for the mini bagel then tax and then the cc extra charge. That’s a $5 difference without avocado, does $5 = $2.50 now? Something just wasn’t right. Since then I always order the same thing, mini bagel, eggs w tomato and onion, and home fries and everytime I get charged a different price. First the total was $7.31 then $7.64 and today when I went there my receipt showed that they were charging me $7.90 for the sandwich alone! That’s a 1.50 up charge. How many people are they doing this to? What if I was in a rush and just paid and walk out like most people in the morning picking up breakfast before work do. .10c extra from one person $1.50 from another that adds up! Especially for an establishment that get probably over 100 client a day. When I saw this i immediately went to speak w a manager who first told me that they don’t charge extra for tomato and onion then another person came and said they charge .50 extra for tomato, lemme say that again .50 EXTRA for tomatoes (in the morning but free in the afternoon because that makes total sense) but on my receipt they’ve been charging .57 cents. When I asked them about the avocado situation and the upcharge of $5 I never got answer. Two of there employed told me that this happens a lot and that the store doesn’t have a good POS system, it’s 2024 and if this is a recurring problem why isn’t it being fixed? Is this what they do in there Nanuet location too? To me I will pay what I have to pay if I want food but to charge a different price everytime I go is ridiculous, good thing I kept my receipts because there no excuse for this. DO...
Read more**in response to your reply, I always thank your staff and tip whether the service is good or not bc I’ve worked the industry. But your claim of no change in pricing . that’s impossible. I go there a few times during certain seasons and I have never paid $80 for the food I ordered, which is always the same with a give or take on the amount of rolls or everything bagels we buy. I looked back in my rocket money account and the most I ever spent there for very similar orders was $50 in Sept ‘23. 80!! If you were that pricey when I was a 1st time customer, I would’ve never returned. Everyone needs to make money in this economy especially and I get that but what I ordered shouldn’t add up to almost $100! That’s ridiculous. 2 containers of a chicken salad equaling $40 of that 80. Im not the only one in your reviews saying the pricing has changed. Also reviews say ownership changed so maybe that’s it. When I got rung up pretty sure my jaw dropped.
The economy has changed but that’s no reason to price gouge customers & locals. If you asked me 1-2 years ago, I would’ve given 5 stars all the way but prices have very dramatically increased here and only giving 2 stars instead of 1 because at least the quality hasn’t gone down. Recently spent a SHOCKING $80 here on a to go lunch order that just last spring/summer would’ve cost me 1/2 that at most.. -2 ½lb containers of chicken salad ($20 ea that I definitely recall being $12 and slowly increasing through this year) -2 apple juices 6 or 8oz -A couple rolls and 1 everything bagel, -2 soups that were around $15 ea if I recall. We LOVE their chicken cranberry almond salad which is usually what we go there for specifically in the summer to buy the same size containers and rolls to take camping and recall our normal to go being around $40 (still felt steep at the time for chicken salad & a few rolls) which is why this $80 bill stuck out so much. $20 each is just crazy. The food is always excellent and fresh but just not...
Read moreGreat for breakfast, unreliable-at-best for lunch, comically priced all around.
Expect some lines during breakfast hours unless you call ahead, but the staff during the breakfast rush does a great job of working through the line, and the food is reliably good — as a former New Yorker, they have the only decent BEC you can find around here, which is worth the prices. Less worth the price is the $15 lox and cream cheese on a bagel, which feels borderline delusional on their part when you consider the $9 equivalent (with tomatoes, onions, capers, etc.) at the local diner. But the bagels are excellent, as are the pastries, and they’ve got a strong lineup of coffee options.
Lunch is a different story. The staff always seems in such a hurry to be done with their day that they often simply turn off the grill long before closing time (e.g. no bacon for a BLT, a club sandwich, and other completely standard lunch fare), and the staff is far more interesting in packing up the food than taking your order. The premade sandwiches and wraps have been sitting out far too long and don’t hold up quality-wise to the much better fresh-made deli sandwiches, which are very generously portioned (but again, you’d better get there before they start cleaning the meat and cheese slicers, which I’ve seen happen well over 30 minutes before closing). The sides (macaroni salad and coleslaw) are both pretty mediocre, and it does appear that many regulars know to simply say “neither” when asked. They have great selection of chips, drinks, etc. to go with your lunch order. Prices at lunch resemble prices at breakfast — objectively too high for our area, but selectively “worth it” depending on...
