After a long day at the aquarium, we found this amazing place and fell in love. Called minutes ahead and were able to make room to sit 6. The staff is super friendly and very knowledgeable when it comes to gluten-free options. THEY CAN MAKE ANYTHING ON THE MENU GLUTEN FREE. My wife is 7 months pregnant and has celiac. Dark Horse allowed us to have one of the most pleasant experiences. For the first time in 7 years my wife was able to eat corn bread; it was warm and moist. The Merlot beef was super tender and delicious. The duck is crispy on the outside and pulls off the bone. The mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. My wife and I live an hour and a half away and are already planning our next visit before she gives birth.

We went for Valentine's Day and enjoyed the farm to table taste of their food. It is French American and it was our first time. We should have come sooner. The portions were just right and the food was delicious. Steak and frites, french onion soup and bay scallops were amazing. Espresso creme brulee was out of this world. The old fashioned and elder gin drinks were fresh and tasty and strong. The waitress was very good. Great ambiance. A cool corner in Riverhead to enjoy the city-like atmosphere. All around a great place for a drink or dinner. Tell 'em Barsnobs sent ya!

A great little place to eat. I have been there twice, leaving happy both times. It is right on Main Street. Parking is behind the building. The wait staff is fun and knowledgeable. My waiter last visit was extra funny and helped make our time there more fun. The food is farm to table. At first, I thought the prices were a little high, I was wrong. Once I tasted the food, it was clear how much effort and talent went into making me happy. Delicious to say the least. Beautiful decor and very clean. If you're in Riverhead, make this a stop for sure.

Just left the Dark Horse Tavern in Riverhead, a lunch with friends, three couples. We are all Foodies, all great cooks, in fact, one of our party used to be a personal chef for a royal family. Our crowd has a decades long history of our moveable feast, all of us hosting and cooking for each other on a loose rotation, with many, many memorable meals. My point being, that we all know what good food, even exceptional food, should taste like. Dark Horse hit it out of the park! Two of our party had the Sweet Chili Chicken Sandwich, both raved about it. In fact, one gal, (who is quite diminutive) never thought she’d finish the generous dish, and looked down at her empty plate, somewhat surprised that she had, it was so good she couldn’t stop eating it. Her husband had the burger, and was equally impressed. My wife had the Fig & Arugula Grilled Cheese and loved it. Another had the Brasserie Salad, huge and hugely delicious and satisfying. I had the Duck Wrap, which had layers of flavors, and stayed delicious and interesting until the very last bite. And the FRIES! Possibly the best I’ve ever eaten, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our waiter, Benedict, was attentive, pleasant and kept us well cared for. We had all passed this place many times, but with so many choices, just never went in, somehow. DO NOT make the same mistake! The next time you want something above the ordinary, go to the Dark Horse. You’ll be...

I LOVE this place! We took a day trip to visit the local wineries and ended up having lunch AND dinner here, because the food...and the staff...are amazing! Everything on the menu is gluten free and locally grown....and absolutely delicious. No cross contamination in their kitchen! It doesn't get any better than that!

Ross, Sonja, and the rest of the staff are so accommodating....funny, personable....we shared some great laughs. They're also quite knowledgeable about food allergies, we spoke about quite a few topics. Ask them and they'll tell you which local farms provide their produce and meats. Got to love it.

Everything we've ever had there is good....from the cornbread served with dinner, salad with gluten free croutons!, the fried calamari served with a delectably sweet marinara, the beef burgers made with grass fed beef, the apple squash soup (to die for!), the perfectly seasoned chicken burger, the incredible hand cut french fries, the honey dijon salmon (omg!)....and the desserts...ohhhh, the desserts. They make amazing desserts. Try the fruit cobbler....the fruit changes with what's in season. They also offer dairy free (or regular) ice cream to put on it.

Definitely the best place on Long Island....I live two hours away and wish I could eat there...

Went to have lunch today after hearing good reviews. I was excited to try, so my son and I ordered two different dishes. His was the chicken which came out well cooked. I ordered a burger medium rare with cheddar and when i took a bite the burger was raw inside. (Fyi i went to culinary school so not in my head). I showed the waitress and she was wonderfully apologetic after seeing it and asked if i would like them to remake it. I said thank you and shared my sons sandwich. During that time i noticed the table next to me also sent their burger back and asked to take their new one to go. My second burger came out and when i bit in i immediately saw the burger was past well done. Again i called the waitress over to show her and she agreed and said she was so sorry. I am not sure if the chef was being a clown because he was upset about the burger being sent back or if he was just unaware of how to cook a burger. I was disappointed a manager never came by because i would have gladly let it go. So sad i have to write a review because i hate communicating this way. Hopefully it was just a bad day and my experience was in...
