The Bagel Emporium — Restaurant in Town of Rye

EDIT: unfortunately I have to change my review to 3 stars. I love this place but the service has gone down in a major way. Very few of the employees have a smile on their face and look depressed. If I want to be sad first thing in the morning, I can go to the DMV. The second thing that made me change my review is the consistency. I always ask the person taking my order to toast the bagel BLACK, very dark, I emphasize that because that’s how I like it. I would say 1 out of 10 times do I get it dark, most times it’s lightly toasted. I also ask for extra cream cheese, most times I’ll get a couple tablespoons. I want my bagel packed with cream cheese, don’t care if I have to pay extra. It’s a bummer because this place has amazing bagels, probably the best I’ve ever had to be honest, but the service really kills it. I keep giving this place a chance but most times am disappointed.

I have been going to bagel emporium for almost 2 decades, since they were located at the old Caldor shopping center. This location is way better than the one in Tarrytown, much better and fresher bagels. I’ve been to this place a few times, and there’s always a long line because they never have enough employees. I watched someone decide to place paper cups in a cabinet rather than wait on the customers. They forgot to give me my everything bagel, which was in a separate bag. when I called them, they said I forgot it. I can’t forget something I wasn’t handed. I thought it was being placed inside the bag with the others. I went back to get the bagel and waited a lobg time because it was only one person behind the counter. Then I saw what was so totally disgusting!!! She took a gloved hand and ran it through the egg salad to chunk it up. She then with her other hand, opened the door to the refrigerator, reached into some kind of a bucket or bowl and came out with the egg salad in both hands and walked it over to the bowl and placed it in the bowl and against used that glove arrange the egg salad! How positively disgusting that her hand touched the outside the refrigerator door and whatever inside and that’s what she put the egg salad in. Didn’t these people ever hear...

This bagel shop is the best in town. I moved here about 6 months ago. I came from Queens so I am very specific about what I want and need in my bagel and cream cheese. This shop has a great selection all the time, and a wide variety of cream cheeses (Try the french toast or rainbow bagel!). The bagels are made like NYC bagels - fluffy on the inside, and ever so slightly crunchy on the outside. The coffee is also very good with different flavor options, either hot or iced.

I also recently wrote to the Port Chester Bagel Emporium asking if they would consider donating five dozen bagels to our 5K race for my nonprofit (LifeWay Network - anti-human trafficking) and Michael said yes right away! It was nice to know that this shop supports the movement against human trafficking. Tatiana at the front was awesome and made the order very easy to pick up. Thank you Michael!!!
