They have a large parking lot out back of their establishment. This place can get pretty busy. I've seen a line all the way up the street on several occasions before .I've had their food on multiple occasions. The fried scallops and shrimp are some of the best and never disappoint. Today while I was here I ordered a lobster roll and the fried scallops portion. My friend ordered hotdogs and french fries. The scallops were delicious as usual. I was a bit surprised by the lobster roll though. It was $23 .It came with mostly minced up lobster and maybe part of a claw on it. For $23 I was expecting alot of large lobster chunks. It was a bit off putting to see it all mostly minced up. It tasted like they sauted the lobster meat on a griddle or something with some butter and a light seasoning. It tasted good. However for $23 I was expecting more lobster. I had a lobster roll the week before at the state fair from another food place. It was only $21 and had huge massive chunks of lobster in it. I had over four claws and so many chunks of meat on it. So I guess with Doug's reputation and how good the scallops and shrimp are .I was expecting a bit more from them. The hotdog was good and the French fries were homemade which was nice. I will definitely be back. The scallops and shrimp are always amazing. I don't think I will be getting a lobster roll again from them though. I saw another lobster roll come out that another customer had ordered. It looked the same as mine, all minced up. This made the roll fall apart and the meat fall out while trying to eat it.

A don't miss eatery when in Skaneatales for terrific (not-junky) fried fish. We were skeptical when we saw the long line of people waiting for takeout at Doug's because the Finger Lakes are known for the excellent fishing there. Every fancy place serves cod or scrod or haddock although these might not be local .. anyway, we noticed a newer sit-down Doug's Dining Room next door and figured if they expanded, they must be good. We were happy we queued up because the line zips right through. Fried fish was a 10" slab of gently breaded, not greasy flounder in a soft, squishy bun. French fries are perfection. No fried clams till Fridays and no calamari left but my hubby had a Lobster Roll he adored. Seafood soup and gumbo smelled delicious. Grilled shrimp skewers landed on the table next to us and looked fabulous. Doug's a super local place with hysterical fish joke signs and vats of tartar sauce and ketchup on the side counters. There are formica tables inside and picnic tables out back too. Prices are circa 1964 so you'll enjoy that too.

Mediocre —- at absolute best. If you’re from out of town you might not get this place. I had seafood gumbo, fried scallops, the shrimp po boy, fries and a beer. Despite being natural cut and full of potential (I was hoping for something like Five Guys), the fries were flaccid and under cooked. Even as a fry guy I’d classify these as inedible, unless you were starving. The seafood gumbo was bizarrely bland and also inedible. I could pick out the flavor of okra, and possibly a bit of sugar, but that was about it. I’d be shocked if they even used black pepper so bland was the seasoning. I got down 5 spoon fulls and then raised the white flag. How do you even make soup, I mean gumbo, this bad??

I’ve had shrimp po boy’s in New Orleans and was hoping this place’s would channel a bit of that spirit — it didn’t. The shrimps sit on a bed of sweet cole slaw. Who on earth likes a sweet tasting seafood sandwich?? The bun seemed to also be slathered with a sweet tasting element..sugared butter maybe? The bun might as well have been a glazed donut.

It rounded out with the fried scallops. These were actually decent. The batter was nice and they tasted fresh. But the highlight of the meal? The cocktail sauce. Seriously. It must be homemade. The food experience however was akin to a highway roadside diner (the one with no cars parked outside). Disappointing from start to finish. It is a charming local spot for sure. I think they rest on those laurels hard. But if you’re looking for legit good food I’d...

I recently visited Doug's Fish Fry and had an amazing experience. We were immediately charmed by the cozy, family-friendly atmosphere and the sight of the train running through the restaurant—it added a delightful touch to our visit.

The unique ambiance was enhanced by the articles and historical memorabilia displayed around the space, providing an interesting backdrop as we dined. The ambient music, featuring old standards, created a nostalgic and inviting atmosphere that made our meal even more enjoyable.

I tried the grilled chicken sandwich and the shrimp squa, both of which were delicious. The shrimp was fresh and perfectly cooked, while the chicken sandwich was juicy and flavorful. My sister Eliza went for their famous fish fry with fries, and it did not disappoint. The fish was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and the portion was generous.

We also sampled all the dips available, and each one added a unique flavor to our meals, enhancing the overall experience. The staff was friendly and efficient, ensuring that we had everything we needed for a great meal.

Doug's Fish Fry truly lived up to its reputation for fresh, high-quality seafood and a welcoming atmosphere. It's no wonder they have such a loyal following! If you ever find yourself near one of their locations in Cortland or Skaneateles, I highly recommend stopping by for a memorable...
