Villa Sorrento — Restaurant in Town of Smithtown

This review is for their catering: Our family hired them to be our caterers for our grandmothers 90th birthday party. Several weeks leading up to the event the caterers were repeatedly asked to make the salmon gluten free. I have celiac disease, so I need to eat a very strict gluten free diet, without any cross contamination of any kind. I am also a pescatarian so the fish was my only option for the meal. My mother in law promised me that I would have something to eat at the birthday party but unfortunately her promise to me was broken by the caterers. Even after repeated and in-advance notice to keep the salmon gluten free the caterers decided to put it on a bed of pasta. I was left with no meal. I ended up having to order delivery!!! Staff either doesn't listen to customers or doesn't know what gluten is. Both of which are concerning!! We will not be hiring them ever again.

My wife and I are new to Smithtown and have been trying all of the restaurants in the vicinity. Well, last night was Villa Sorrento in St. James. We were the only ones in the restaurant(5:15 PM) and a few guys at the bar. Greeted by unnamed waiter and seated. Looked over menu and specials and ordered away. Bottle of house red was decent. I had baked clams and marinated skirt steak, which were both good. My wife had the filet mignon spring rolls which were delicious and then she had the Chilean sea bass. Decent, but piled high with mango. Dessert was the fudge sundae which can't go wrong:). Overall OK. The rub was we were never checked on or asked how everything was. Owner never stopped by, even though he was at the bar with a few friends. We mentioned to the waiter that we just moved out here and it was our first time trying the restaurant. I have been to this restaurant 3 times and each time I had horrendous service. I will never be back. The first 2 times I gave them the benefit of the doubt because they were busy so I blamed the poor service on that. The last time I went there I was with my aunt and we were the only people in the restaurant because it was before the dinner rush and they took forever and were very unprofessional. Honestly I get better service at a restaurant that is half the price. Please don’t waste your time and money by going here. I would like to add that the second time I went here my group had to walk over to the bar to get water or a soda because no one was asking us what we wanted to drink and also ignoring us. We paid separately for our drinks at the bar BUT they added the prices of the drinks we ordered and paid for to the bill!!!! Never...
