Tried Cinco de Mayo Tacos for takeout and I genuinely wish I hadn’t.
Ordered birria tacos, and no au jus included. That’s the whole point of birria. The al pastor? Should be renamed to “unseasoned pork fat.” Suadero, which they claim is brisket, tasted like it was drowned in ketchup and deep-fried, more like something off the steam table of a cheap Chinese buffet.
The salsas smelled like dirty dish rags, so I couldn’t even bring myself to try them.
Fries at a Mexican place? That was a first time (and not in a good way).
Then the cucumber slices. They were cut so thick I thought they accidentally dropped in half a cucumber. Mushy, flavorless, and just…why?
I stepped inside briefly while waiting for my order, and what I saw made it worse: trays of food sitting out on the bar that looked like they’d been there all week. Nothing looked fresh or appetizing.
I rarely leave reviews, but this was too...
Read moreWhen I got to the place, there was enough parking space. Once I got inside, the atmosphere was different than any other placements. The counter person was ready to write down my order. There was a lot of food selection to choose from. Different types of tacos, burritos, tortas, etc. Great drinks like sprite, juices, water but there were also natural drinks like horchata, melon, etc. Once your food was ready, they would call your name and you can choose your sauces and toppings at the little station they had. This place is a great spot to hang out or to pass time with friends and family. Although the place was hot, it doesn't matter because the day was already hot and obviously people were working in the kitchen meaning it was going to get hot. All in all, the food and place is definitely worth trying. I think I just found my new spot. Give it a try and you will see that this is a place...
Read moreI’ve been on the hunt for authentic tacos, and I’m so happy to say I’ve finally found them right here in St. James. Tacos Cinco de Mayo serves the best tacos in the area hands down. The portions are generous, and the sauce bar is a great touch that lets you customize your plate just the way you like it.
So far, I’ve tried the brisket tostadas and steak tacos both were packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. I’ve heard rave reviews about the al pastor and birria as well (though I don’t eat pork), and I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re just as amazing.
The taqueria is cozy, with seating for around 8 tables, and their drinks are all made in-house. I really enjoyed the Jamaica and tamarindo, and they also offer horchata and passion fruit.
It’s such a great addition to our town, authentic, flavorful, and welcoming....
