My boyfriend and I went to on a date night, for the first time in 2 years, only to be disappointed. It was 7:30 pm, so the restaurant was winding down from the dinner rush, it took 15 minutes to be seated. It took a few minutes for our waiter to come once we we're seated, when the waiter got there we ordered drinks, when our drinks arrived we told him we would like to order appetizers to start with. The appetizers came and we ate them.We saw our waiter walk by us several times, thinking that at any minute he would stop and see if we were ready to order or at least check on us, not once did he even make eye contact, hard to do considering we were sitting in a high boy chair. Finally, after about 30 plus minutes I stopped him and asked him if we could order now, which at this point he rolls his eyes and said "what, I thought you were done?" If this was the case why were we not given the bill at some point or at least checked on, plus why did he leave the menus with us, which we had been clearly looking at? Had I not have made contact with him first, he would never have reached out to us. I have been a waitress and know how to treat customers, he was unprofessional. I am not the type of person to dish out negative reviews. I had to wait this long to write this because I did not want to be as mad as I was. I suffer from agoraphobia, so for me to even leave my house was a huge deal for me!!! This...
Read moreWalk in there on a sunday afternoon. Busy but plenty of seating. We weren’t greeted right away. We stood there for a few before the hostess said something to us that someone will be with us shortly. They sat us close to the kitchen so and i sat on the side next to the kitchen door. Everytime someone had to walk by, i had to duck/move so that they would have more room. I’m pretty small. Can’t imagine anyone bigger would enjoy sitting on tjat side.
Our server was great and attentive. She was a bit overwhelmed. Calamari was good. I ordered a delmonico steak on a bread. That was not good at all. Not medium rare like what i asked. It has a weird flavor to it too. Mashed potatoes need more seasoning. I didn’t understand the sweetened carrot, didn’t like that at all. I had cheddar and broccoli soup for side. That was sorta gross too. It was so thick.
The bill was expected. I don’t mind paying for good food. But that was not it at all. Lastly, we wanted to get seprate checks but i guess we should’ve said something but no biggie on that aspect, they fixed it right away.
Overall, the experience was as okay. The food was not good. Our server didnt ask if how’s our food even though she saw me not eating most of my food. She may have known why.
Will i be back? No. Not sure there are many good options in that...
Read moreAs a long time customer of Canal View, first there are always 2 sides to every story\review.
Also, as I write my review, sitting next to me is a very well behaved friendly 2 year old boy. I find it amazing that the restaurant, it's owner, Jean and the staff are considered not kid/family friendly. I always see families in the restaurant, some in high chairs, some in boosters and rarely are there any issues. Typically they are in large groups.
Please note, I understand the family writing poor reviews had a similar situation on their last visit with their son acting up. If you had problems previously, with your child, at a business, why return only to complain.
Typically, in any business, when a child acts up, the parent or other removes the child and takes them outside or to another location.
Service by Carol, has always been and is very friendly and exceptional.
Food, my usual Chicken saltimbocca sandwich with hot peppers and amazing waffle fries, extra yummy.
Chicken and greens sandwich also great
Sometimes staff get busy and kitchens get backed up. Oh well. Enjoy being out and relax.
I highly recommend Canal View with or...
