Another rave review for a well-deserved eatery! Olive Falafel…Where to start (and will I be able to stop)? I’m always looking for good falafel because all falafel is not created equal! I definitely found what I was looking for.
First, the restaurant is well-lit and clean! Decor is modern and there is indoor and outdoor seating. The veggies are fresh!
The falafel tastes like it’s freshly made. I’ve had halal guys falafel (which is frozen and it’s terrible and salty) but Olive Falafel tastes fresh and delicious! If you like falafel, you’ll LOVE Olive Falafel! Try it for yourself!!
The hummus is good. Although I have my favorites and nothing will ever compare with the hummus & pita co in Manhattan (which closed down during the pandemic), I’m so happy to find an AMAZING falafel place along my route to/from the Big Apple. So maybe I set my standard too high, but still the hummus is delicious and creamy. They even put a few chickpeas on top of the hummus with a little olive oil and some type of spice, which tastes like it has a little cinnamon in it. That was a new flavor for me and it was good.
The pita bread was warm, fresh and soft.
If you’re vegan or vegetarian, you’ll have a lot of choices here. I didn’t try any of the meat, but based on everything else, I’d imagine it’s just as good!
Although, I did have a bit of a wait, I think it’s due to the fact that the food is so good and I visited during a peak time.
I’ll be back many times in the future....
Read moreNew owners- dont get confused! This corner location has turned over to new owners twice since it was the Mediterranean Grill. It was a Greek restaurant owned by a family who then sold it to new owners and tried opening a deli/bagel place but that didn't work out. Now we're on the new owner. We ate in and got to talk to the new owner who was also the cook. He told us his background story and about each thing he served us. The food was excellent. I loved this garlic emulsified sauce he makes. Yum! We ate platters one gyro and the other chicken. Both were delicious. It came with a Greek salad as well. As of right now the inside is plain but, he only just opened. There is a menu on Facebook he told us. There are no takeout menus only the ones in pictures. Be patient, he said he wants to tweek menu depending on customers likes/ dislikes/requests. You can order to dine in or take out. His hours are great and he is very personable. I would go here hands down again. I will be an ongoing customer. The only reason for 4 stars is just because of the interior is basic and can use a little sprucing up but all within due time. If your looking to grab some food while on lunch break or a dinner out with the family go here you won't be disappointed. It truly is a different experience from the previous Greek restaurant owners to the current owner. Best of luck to the new owners but something tells me they will be here...
Read moreSorry for the lack of photos, the cameraman was too hungry. The choice of Olive Falafel came about after a couple of misses. For instance, Saffron on Dolson Avenue did not have their buffet available. Additionally, we recalled that Allan's Falafels is closed on Mondays.
Yet, despite the couple of swings, Olive Falafel was a hit! I ate the grilled chicken with hummus sandwich on a pita. My sister bought the crispy chicken with tzatziki on a pita. The pita was delicious and the chicken was seasoned to perfection. Also, the pita is unlike others that I had before- the bread has a unique taste and fluffy texture that was delightful. My sister claimed that the crispy chicken was a bit salty. However, overall the sandwich was delicious- even more favorable than the sandwiches at Allen's Falafel.
The pita sandwiches were well layered with toppings and chicken. Further, for a few extra dollars, you can get fries. The fries were neither overly too salty nor oily. If you only can finish a sandwich, then the price is about 7.95. Otherwise, if you want fries, then there's an extra charge of 3 dollars.
Overall, for about 10 dollars you can get a flavourful sandwich on a pita with fries. The whole meal works well for lunch. I look forward to trying more...
