DISCRIMINATION AT MIDDLETOWN NEW YORK. BEWARE. PLEASE READ ENTIRE POST.
On Wednesday December 15th, my husband I checked into the hotel near the galleria at around 11pm after traveling. At arrival we were told they had just opened & had only one other guest in the hotel. The front desk told us they had just ten comforters bought that day as their supplies had yet to arrive, the comforter in our room was unwashed, with a right out of the bag smell, when we travel we take our own linens so it wasn't a problem but makes me worry with covid about the cleanliness of the rest of the room. After check in she said no warm breakfast would be available either due to not having the equipment to cook, I felt she should have let us know that before booking, but not a big issue at all, they also had no carts to bring our luggage to the room. Yet, no problem still, we managed and arrived to our room. This trip was planned for my husbands 36th birthday. After traveling all day we were eager to pack & relax. We're avid travelers so we loved that it was a new facility to explore since we b/vlog all our adventures. New York is one of our most traveled states so we were happily to find a newer hotel to possibly build a relationship with. Once inside & settled in my husband proceeded to roll up his marijuana cigar. Since it had been legalized we didn't think much of it at the time although my husband did say that the smell was strong upon opening it. We then proceeded downstairs to a smoking section, after going outside we didn't see any designated area to smoke at the time so we assumed like many other things in the hotel, it was not ready yet so we walked across the street to be respectful of the hotel. After finishing smoking we then entered back through the front door, since the side entrances were not working yet either. Once entering the building to approach the front desk for water we were approached by a women who said she was the hotel GM, who said her name was Rachael, then stated while we were gone she stood outside our room & smelt that we had smoked in the room! We were completely shocked by her allegations & immediately both offered for her to enter the room to see we in fact didn't smoke in the room, that in fact it was just the heavy aroma of marijuana which we apologized for multiple times. She agreed and we headed to the room, upon opening the door she refused to enter and started saying again we had smoked in the room to which my husband and I were honestly shocked. There's a big difference between smoking in a room and having marijuana in a room but she said that the two are the same thing. Mind you Marijuana is decriminalized/legalized for recreational use in NY state at this point. We arrived at roughly 11pm and were being told to leave by 12 am because of our odor. She refused to refund us & even threatened to fine us for smoking in the room. We were berated, embarrassed & will absolutely never stay with LaQuinta again. My husband & I are a biracial couple, I can't help but feel like we were targeted & discriminated against for that reason. We will be seeking lawyer for how we...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for three nights. On the evening of our first night while taking a shower I noticed how slippery the tub/shower floor was. There was no texture or slip-resistance to the floor. I told both my wife and daughter to be very careful in the shower. On the morning of the third day I took a shower prior to checking out. I slipped and fell face first toward the rear of the shower and hit my face. I reached up to pull myself back and blood was everywhere. The tile was covered, the curtain was sprayed and soaked with blood. Blood was running down my face and I noticed a wound across my nose. I crawled out of the shower all while leaking more blood across the floor and called my wife for help. She checked on me and immediately went to the front desk for bandages.
My wife comes back and says that the front desk had no first aid kit and the lady there gave her a couple band-aids as that was all she had. It’s hard to believe that a hotel, which also has a kitchen, would be without a first aid kit but that’s their OSHA violation. After getting the bleeding under some control I packed as we were very close to the checkout time.
We took the key to the front desk and there was no mention at all of the accident from the woman working.
After arriving home the next day I called to check on finding a shirt I left in my room since I was in a hurry after the injury and in a bit of a haze from it. The manager answered the phone and I proceeded to tell her about the fall. She had no report from the previous day of an accident on the premises. I told her the details and that was all there was from it. A few days later I get an email from the manager placing the blame on me. Yes, an email saying it was my fault that I fell in their unsafe, slippery shower. I replied back but I never received a reply so I guess they had nothing more to say. Management has no care for the safety of this hotel. Stay here at your own risk is...
Read more'General Manager' Rachel Kuhn is a joke, and that's putting it nicely. When asked questions about a significantly higher bill I received after my stay this past weekend, she was disrespectful, stating that it's on me that I was wrong and that her hotel communicated correctly with me- I asked her after booking.com told me I would pay 432.00 why the total was 529. She said 'maybe because you had 2 dogs and its 40/night.' To which I replied I was not communicated this- what I was communicated and have in emails from your hotel is that is 20/pet and a 40 cap. They've even written that for your 2 night stay it's 43.32 for the entire stay. They were advised in writing as well as when I booked and even when I called that I had 2 small dogs. She then proceeded to rudely and unprofessionally say 'what will it take to get you off the phone, $40?'
And when I called the booking.com, they advised they will let her know, only to get harass me via email and gaslight me for HER bad behavior. Disgraceful and unacceptable. You're in hospitality. Answering guest's questions is part of your job. Clearly, she thinks she's above...
