If you’re a tourist looking for a place that has some of the best food in the area, Billy’s Restaurant is your best bet.
Food: The food is pretty delicious. My flavor palette lies with the vodka riggies, which is just penne alla vodka, and I would recommend this dish to anybody eating here. The sauce is very flavorful and tastes like an actual fruity and savory vodka sauce. My only gripe is how inconsistent the food can be. For example, there may not be enough vodka sauce in my dish, leaving just hydrated penne past. On a positive note, the desserts are consistent, and I especially enjoy the carrot cake!
Service: Although we typically order to go from this restaurant, the workers are a hit or miss. In addition, the prices on our receipt are always inconsistent. Sometimes, the bill shows a higher price, yet I receive more change back than I expect. Or vice versa, which is a much worse situation to deal with. Despite how busy the restaurant can get during the on-season, only one person should handle the money, because that entire situation is a mess.
Atmosphere: I have eaten here only a couple of times, and the dining room is quite small and compact with about five tables at most. Good for a family night or a good time, but not good for conversing.
Despite the more negative feedback, the food itself is worth a try. If you want good food, in fact arguably the best in Old Forge, this would be your place to order a delicious dinner. What’s also nice is that if you don’t care for salad, the owner may add more bread; but not all the time. However, it is...
Read moreIt was meidiocre.... The reason it's so hard to get a reservation at this restaurant is not due to the quality of the food it's because there's only about 12 tables in the whole restaurant... We ordered calamari which was OK.... The disappointment really started with the salad we received a plate with some romaine lettuce 2 pieces of raw onion and 2 pieces of chopped carrot.. thats it.... I was originally going to order the chicken parm but I asked the waitress what the side pasta was with it and she told me it was penne, I told her I did not really want penne so I was going to order the baked ziti with a meatball instead.... When it came to the table it was just a big bowl of penne pasta with sauce and some mozzarella cheese on top... My daughter got fettuccine alfredo which came to the table as regular spaghetti in a very thin cream sauce... My mom got hats and broccoli which came in a red sauce (usually hats and broccoli are made with garlic and Olive oil)... My husband ordered a vodka and scallop dish he was able to find about 2 scallops and it was luke warm at best ....and everything needed salt.... The bread was good and the waitress was so incredibly nice that I felt bad complaining about anything so we just ate our food, paid and left... would probably never go back... As for all the 5 star reviews I can only imagine these are people who are somewhat bias or don't have good Italian...
Read moreReservations apparently required. I've only had 2 experiences at Billy's. The first was coming back from a debacle of a camping trip through Old Forge at 10pm on a Friday night. Billy's was the only place in town still open and they seated my family of six - the service and food were good, and the place was still busy for being so late. However, I found their menu to be extremely pricey. I am from the Utica/Rome area where you can get amazing Italian cuisine everywhere, so I was taken aback at how much Billy's charges for their meals. Though, apparently this is what all the restaurants inside the town of Old Forge do - price gouge, because it's a tourist area. My second time there was this evening - a Tuesday night at 7pm, my family of 6 was told because we didn't have a reservation it would be an hour and a half before they could seat us. They weren't even as busy as the Friday night at 10 we had dropped in. It worked out for the best though, because we found the real hidden gem in Old Forge - Mountainside...
