Growing up in San Jose, this place was the go to spot after school in high school. They are known for their chili cheese fries and the pies! Yummm! So that's what I ordered besides some pies.
We placed our order with the cashier and payed. Of course, this was our pit stop before arriving at our destination 30 minutes out. So we used the restrooms, and had some water. The employee handing out the food gave me the chili cheese fries and said the pies are almost done. I love the fact that they make their pies fresh. We ordered the strawberry & banana creme pies.
As we're waiting, I peeked into my box of chili fries and it had a burger bun cut in half. I was thinking "That's odd!? I didn't order a chili cheese burger." Then I went back to the counter waited patiently for the same employee-that-handed-me-the-food's attention. Once, I achieved doing so, I opened up the box and asked her is this supposed to be chili cheese fries? She responded yes. At the this point, I'm still dumbfounded. I asked for a fork because I wasn't provided one and I took it a table and poked around. She did give me the wrong order. At that same moment I was going back to the counter, yet again, another patron with her daughter in hand said verbatim, "I didn't order chili cheese fries." Low a behold, the employee passing out the food and the cashier looked at each other and began to blame each other. Then they took back the orders and put it behind the counter and said that they were going to remake it. But after about the minutes, they have is our rightful order, but it wasn't fresh. They most definitely did not remake it. They did not even apologize for their mistake. They could've compensated for the wait by remaking it and giving us the misgiven order. That's why most places have set system to double check the order prior to handing it out to...
Read moreNation's Giant Hamburgers is hands-down one of my favorite spots! In terms of value and portion size, it's unbeatable. Their double cheeseburger, priced at $12.50 (including bacon!), is massive, especially compared to an In-N-Out Double Double, which runs about $6-$7. But with Nation's, you get a lot more food – fresh ingredients like crisp lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and flavorful onions. It’s the perfect place if you're craving that classic, hearty American burger experience, like something right out of a '50s car hop.
There are a few locations I love, especially the ones in Fremont and Tracy. Often, when I'm traveling between San Jose and the Central Valley, I’ll make it a point to stop here if I'm extra hungry.
Beyond burgers, Nation’s also serves up a fantastic breakfast menu, with generous portions of eggs, bacon, and toast done in that classic diner style. Everything here is fresh, grilled to order, and never something that’s been sitting around.
And let’s talk about their pies! From blueberry to cherry to pumpkin cheesecake – the freshness is top-notch, and the taste is incredible. They offer whole pies for around $20, and the cheesecakes are around $25 – definitely worth every penny. Plus, you can grab onion rings and fries to make it a full, traditional burger joint experience. For me, Nation's Giant Hamburgers is the place for that classic, all-American meal....
Read moreWe made a pit stop in Tracy earlier today. The kids wanted McDonald's, and my wife and I wanted Nations. They're right next to each other, so everyone got what they wanted. McDonald's seemed lifeless and depressing inside. A touch screen took our order, and they didn't even have the menu posted above the counter. Everything inside just looked grey and sad.
We then walked over to Nations. Wow, what a difference. It was a very inviting atmosphere, the staff was friendly, and they were even giving out samples of their pies.
My wife ordered chili cheese fries, and I got a bacon cheeseburger. I wasn't even that hungry, but I can't even remember the last time I had Nations. I didn't want to pass on the opportunity.
The food came out pretty quick. This might be one of the very few places where the food looks better in real life than the pictures. My burger was huge! Everything tasted hot and fresh, and I ate it all, despite being pretty full already from eating in San Jose about an hour prior.
Nations kind of reminds me of what going out to eat used to be like. The prices are reasonable, the food is fresh and hot, and the employee's are friendly and helpful. After having a terrible experience down in SJ with another eatery only hours earlier, this definitely...
